If you look at the numbers they released, it don't line up with any of these hater as reviewers. It pretty much ended up being what it was initially supposed to be. a multiplayer ship combat DLC for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, they just forgot to include the functionality with the base game. what a shame, it would of been a great DLC for Black Flag, lol.

It's just typical Ubisoft, they did the same thing with For Honor. It's like they take an awesome idea, get a master to work on 1 or 2 of its concepts and then have a room full of monkeys build the remaining 90% of the game. I have this theory that Ubisoft employ absolutely anyone to stay competitive, even people who need help tying their own shoes, because they can just tell them "your payment is the honor of working for us" and they will swallow it, that's how stupid they are.

I mean i find it like this. Skull amd bones is almost rouge like in some aspects. You can be level 5-7 level 10 will definitely kill you quickly. Reason i like skull and bones is it brings the combat more simple like black flag, the cannon mechanics were virtually the same i know i still play both... skull and bones can be played solo or with friends captaining thier own ship. Sea of thieves is a bit different. You have a multi crew ship and as cool as it is having multi rolls. But can make your dhip options and how far you go based on not only your own skill but that of your crew. Its great when you got people to play with. But skull and bones has many good things to like about it and i have my own issies with the game like boarding or traveling around your own ship would be cool

3:18 "It takes all the thinking out of the controls" *100% whiff on the easiest of broadsides* I only really looked into this right before the open beta, and playing the beta yeah there are some issues. However, all of your footage shows only the second ship in the game, the terrible one the tutorial made you build, did you ever get past that to one of the other 5 ships in the beta? Also, its a multiplayer game, did you ever partner with anyone else? I think its a hard sell at $60 comparing to what else is available, especially indy, but I'm definitely going to get $60 worth of enjoyment out of it. The premium edition does not bring the extra $30 of value being exclusively cosmetics after the 16th, but ultimately if you play any game wrong its going to suck. I'm not convinced you fully explored what is on offer here and decided it was mediocre cause you just didn't explore the fun parts, as even your Sea of Thieves clip here shows you on a galleon, a boat that is near impossible to man solo. Had you only played SoT manning a galleon solo, you'd likely have a much different opinion of the game.

There isnt even a broadside. I had a ship with 2 cannons on each side. When broadside to an enemy, those 2 cannons meant that I had 4 shots to lay into the enemy before reloading. Yes, each shot fires after the next as though you were firing a cannonball machine gun. And every shot converged on my reticle regardless of the angle. So its less a broadside, and more a machine gun where the more canons you get, the larger your magazine.

No one has made a pirate game correctly since Sid Myers Pirates. The game is old but they nailed the mechanics of trading, pirating, dealing with diffrent countries and sailing the open world seas. If someone would just take that game and turn it into a modern title it would do really well. Basically we need Sea Of Thieves mixed with Sid Myers Pirates to create the ultimate pirate game. It's not just about sailing your ship. Theres business and deplomacy involved as well. SOT is cool but I want a more realistic pirate game.

Instead of spending £90 for the premium version I paid for a month of Ubisoft + for £14.99. Having played the game now I honestly wouldn't pay £15 for it. If you guys pulled your Brigantine you googled where to get 6 hour into the game, out of full speed. I'd still rather play this sea of thieves, or any other pirate game. No sword combat? That's fine, i would play the hundreds of other games out there saturating the Dark Souls Genre if i wanted sword and single shots.

Your last comment about being sick of remakes and remasters is spot on. Lets not forget sequels that are cookie cutter copies of previous games. All of this is why I follow star citizen, they are trying to do something ambitious which breaks new ground in the industry and develops new tech for it. Personally I'm not a huge sci fi fan, but I want them to succeed to help bring the industry something new. And also hope the engine they make one day makes it into other developers hands so someone cane make me a decent fantasy world with it.

Also some additional content on 06:23 and to add more clarity... apparently PVP exclusive zones will come in a future content patch, but for now its very much limited, and from what I could gather, you can only really disable other players rather than actually sink them, so it's all a bit pointless really. Looting in Sea of Thieves sucks!. You Can’t carry that much. You do the pirate Skull vault and it takes forever to get all the loot on the boat. Then you have to do it all over again just to sell the stuff.

Talk about a police state, YT has removed 2 posts by me and neither was offensive, just a bit too close to the truth. So, let's see if this one stays up or is removed. This is a different take on why this games fails . . . in the West. Although the lack of sword combat, ship raiding, and land exploration automatically makes it a fail. I have travelled the world, extensively, that is a fact not a boast. The peoples of the Far East have a different kind of temperament, maybe a bit manic and excitable. The crazier something is the more animated they get. So, there should be no surprise that if you give a Singapore team the anvilnext game engine, used by the Montreal team to make Assassins Creed, something confusing and disjointed was going to be the hybrid outcome. If you live inside different cultures something will always rub off. Different societies create different influences. The game might be a hit in the Far East, I hope it is, but why try and sell something designed for one culture to a different culture. Where they see it as a whole to us it becomes a game of two totally different styles, the intricate detail as one and the totally different graphical approach of the sea battles as the other. Much, much more work should have been put into the sea battles, particularly as that is the only "action" in the game.

I had a lot of fun with the open beta and really like the graphics of this game! They put a lot of effort into all those little details on the ship (singing crew, pet, customization options). You can add many different updates (hulls, cannons, furniture) to go for different playstiles. When I saw the healing cannons (that repair ships) and the basilisks, it was clear, that a lot of group dynamic fights will be possible. You can go for ramming and use short range cannons with a tanky ship, or you go long range and heal teamates with a faster but more fragile ship. The wind system and behaviour of the ship is just wonderfull! The influence of waves and the drag to the side if you think you go straight but the wind pushes you to one side is very realistic. If you go fast you have not the same turning radius as if ou go slow, so there is a physics model applied to the ship. There is night and day and weather animation which make the game very atmospheric. If you are overloaded you can't go full speed, your sails can get damaged and your hull can have leaks. I accept this game as what it is, a MMORPG on the water, where PvE, quests and gathering is the main goal. From what I hear here and on other platforms, those who complain looked for a PvP centered hardcore game. I heard the same after the release of New World and now with the release of Throne and Liberty. Idk if we need two versions of each game released or seperated servers those with PVP and those without. I remember the times of Guildwars 2 when there was a very interesting PvP Arena with 3 teams fighting for the win. The winning team went into the endfight against the Endboss of the game to earn a serverwide honorfull mention and great loot. Can't there be a good and meaningfull PvP in arenas? Why PvP everywhere is so important?

People are being so hard on this game, I am genuinely enjoying it. Idk.. I could sit here and make the same defenses ive said a million times, about how from the footage I can see, you haven't seen the coolest parts of the game yet, but idk, most wont listen. Theres also misinformation here. You take damage sailing in the storm in bigger ships and it is quite bad, and that's not the only fact you claimed that was wrong. Idk why people are missing all this stuff, like you can demast people/npcs, different ships can sail in to the wind, most can not at all and come to almost a full stop, and pvp is extremely fun btw. The ocean is not just an animation for your ship, trying combat in the storm, your cannons are hitting the water like crazy, the larger ships keel is so strong you are almost tipping over and the damage you take is enough to push you over the age. You take the damage when you fly off the top of a wave and catch air and then crash into the water. Idk, you haven't played enough, but something rubbed you the wrong way before you saw these things I guess.

Very fair comments mate, and well said. As always, my opinions are no more or no less than anyone else’s so I appreciate how you put them out there. A lot of the footage came very early on as I wanted to get this video out asap, but like many I played the open beta to death and got close to end game (Surprised they allowed that to be honest). Regarding the weather, it really is nothing like sea of thieves in that sense. I was going to do a whole comparison looking at the wave engine of both games but felt the video was already getting long. The fact is, a lot of ship combat and movement js so dumbed down and arcade like, that it almost feels like your disconnected from being the captain. I don’t have footage of the flamethrower weapons as an example, but it backs up the point about a lack of strategy in combat when you can just ram into someone than hold down the fire of doom. Everything here feels so dumbed down. Storm wise, and unless I haven’t hit the same storms as you, I never once felt like I was in serious danger. In fact, a smaller ship would suffer more than a big ship in real life and would get trounced. It’s totally backwards how they implemented this. And the damage is superficial, and certainly you never fear for your life. Again in a game like Sea of Thieves, a storm will take you down in minutes as you scramble to get water out from below deck. Skull and Bones just has so many missed moments for me. But no matter what, all that matters is your enjoyment of the game. As an example, I personally didn’t like Palworld, it wasn’t for me at all. So you sharing your comments is not just appreciated, but shows others that there is enjoyment to be had here! Thank you Nate, very well said.

It's arcadey as fuck for a game based solely on naval combat - A problem that befalls most pirate-themed games (even AC Black Flag). Ships did not blow up and sink after 3 or 4 quick volleys in as many seconds. It took a damn sight longer to reload guns in real life, and they didnt zip around like speed boats either. Wind direction was everything, but that matters very little in this game. Glad I tried the demo first...realised after 2-3 hours it was a giant bucket of chum. It's currently £20 on Steam and it still feels too expensive.

My first thought was "Hyena" isn't the only multi-million pound disaster. The continuous remodeling over ten years has resulted in a disjointed game of the sum of its parts, and it doesn't work. Add to that the no swordplay, ship raiding, and land exploration and the whole debacle has to hold together on the most ridiculous of sea battles. We have very good onboard graphics of the shipboard life diminishing to cartoon battles where the ships move at the most unrealistic and crazy speeds and laughable cannon action and flames. Nothing is cohesive which happens when a game goes through one re-invention after another. One thing you cannot do in a game like this is take out hand-to-hand combat as that turns all protagonists into bit players. This is most definitely for the bargain basement in a short time. After decades of gaming I have seen so many "Pirate" games come and go. What I would like to see is a triple A pirate game made in the way The Witcher is made. A strong story-line with the sandbox approach. As I see it you have the choice of progression through advancement in the story-line or advancement in combat, The Witcher has both. You can step off and on of the story-line. Like I said, another "Hyena" except that they want £50 to try and recoup their mistake of not dumping it years ago.

Mate, it was honestly the number one thing that stood out for me when playing this for the first time. It killed all immersion as I just treated it like a car. I can’t say that I’ve ever captained a Galleon, and I’ll take a stab in the dark and say that you haven’t either, but I think we both know they don’t turn and accelerate like this.

I knew it was gonna be ass when I saw them collecting resources with the ship and you can't get off and raid the strongholds or castles and you barely get out of the ship... With no melee combat or boarding... It's just insane.. Dumb people working there

I think the combats good, lots skill needed to planning needed to fight efficiently, from reducing speeds to turn quicker to equiping mods and wepions that compliment each other and makes you pre plan combat tactics, the resource gathering is standard for open worlds mmo games, the weather does damage and sink ships and even effect ship control, they should do more when boarding ships and plundering settlements and also i think they should allow you to recruit troops also

I enjoyed the shit out of the beta. You can't go in thinking it's black flag, though, because it's not. It's essentially an mmo where your ship is the character. Pvp is where this game shines. Right now, pvp is limited , but its a lot of fun . Id like to see them open an area on the map thats just all open pvp, or even do a faction thing where 2 or 3 iffrent factions are constantly fighting over a trade route, where wich ever faction holds the trade route that fction gets x amount of resources an hr.

youve made some pretty good points and i can tell youve actually played the game. the only gripe i have is the unfair comparisons to sea of thieves, fundamentally the game is a MMO action RPG alot of the things you brought are just rpg things and you cant compare to sea of thieves when it was going for something different. i think the comparisons for the most part were fair with black flag. btw ive played for about 18 hours i dont think the game is amazing but i think its better than the credit its given.

And great point in sea of thieves… I think fundamentally the comparisons get made because sadly (and the industry needs to wake up to this point) is that there just isn’t many pirate games to compare to. I think we all levitate to sea of thieves because that’s the closest, but your points are more than fair.

Just found your channel through this review and I really appreciate how civilised and fairly you review things. I'm sick and tired of people just hating on things to get attention without even understanding what they're talking about. Having played basically all the content that was available in the final open beta, I totally agree. Everything is very low commitment and it feels like a very generic MMO with a pirate skin slapped on.

And like you, I played the open beta to death and was surprised how far they let you go before the final game. @@cockneygamerI was already out when I found out there was no boarding combat or swashbuckling. But the last straw was figuring out that cannons are basically a machinegun. 2 cannons on one side? That means I get 4 shots that go off in rapid succession. Makes total sense!

Who is conning whom? I keep seeing that the game had to be finished in some form because the Singapore government was a major investor. Really! So no matter what, no matter how bad, it is better for the Singapore government to get egg all over its face than withdraw the game? As it stands the Singapore government has shown itself to be clueless and more than willing to subject gamers worldwide to this piece of rubbish. As for Ubisoft, AC games, Ghost Recon games, are two of my favourite series so how could a company capable of producing such excellent series not find a way out of this dilemma instead of feeding us all so much BS. How does that saying go? "you are only as good as your last performance" On that Ubisoft have a lot of ground to recoup.
