While the designs may not hold up the best today, they are still far better than what 65 calls a dinosaur Also, after seeing King Kong (2005) this year, even though I’ve seen it plenty before, it’s probably one of my favorite movies. The Skull Island section is filled with some of my favorite action scenes of all time in film (the stampede scene especially), and I got into looking at the book which has so many cool concepts and makes Peter Jackson’s Skull Island by far my favorite (although the Monsterverse has a place in my heart as well)

Peter Jackson's iteration of skull island is more faithful to depicting a land where dinosaurs, and other prehistoric creatures, were given a chance to further evolve another 65 million years to present day. It's definitely a more realistic depiction with elements of science fiction. The Monsterverse skull island is more of fauna and flora genes entangled, which is a cool concept and very fantasy based. Both cool ideas in their own respects but I too definitely prefer PJ's iteration of skull island more. Plus, we've gotten to see more diverse species in the concept art book as opposed to the comic series the Monsterverse has distributed.

Oooh, this is a fun map! The landscaping detail and variation is really pretty and effective. And the helicopter views are a great way of exploring, especially a wilderness-heavy map like this

I love the V-Rex too as its own thing, its design works super well for the world it's in and can be justified by the fact that not only was it on a tiny shrinking island for 66 million years, had massive inbreeding problems and it being a homage to the style of dinosaurs you'd see in 1930's movies. The problem comes when people started trying to make their actual t-rex designs look like v-rex without anything to justify it. Plus a lot of those later v-rex rip offs were just not as cool looking.

honestly, even if the v rex came out this year, as long as the lore behind the island shrinking was still there, it wouldnt look too outlandish. The island is far smaller than it used to be and the v rexes would have lost genetic diversity. One sign of an Alabama family reunion is really screwed up teeth where they are all over the place, although the crocodilian osteoderms on its back would still make it pretty inaccurate. And the Venatosaurus would be absolutely slaughtered for its design.

One of the things I found disappointing about Kong: Skull Island is the lack of dinosaurs. I understand where they were going with it (there used to be huge dinosaur-like creatures which are now extinct, as seen with their bones, to tie in with the whole Skullcrawlers destroying the ecosystem/advancement of time since the 1930s Skull Island), I just wanted dinosaurs, darnit. The creatures on it are cool, they're just not dinosaurs. Grumble grumble grumble.

man I really wish there was an official DLC for the dinosaurs of Skull Island, I mean Universal owns the rights they can do it... it be a better crossover then that Fast and Furious crossover... sigh... thank goodness for modders, PJ's KK has the best movie dinosaurs ever! This mod is nice but I prefer the one from JWE1 better it had more dinos
