Pottery handbuilding tutorial making a skull platter, using a placemat. I hadn't made this before, and of course, I made it for the first time on camera. But I had the idea of painting with underglazes, then waxing, and then adding black underglaze for a Mishima look without all the carving. I ended with a very cool project that actually worked.

Oh Tiffany you echo my thoughts about age, this 25 yr old looks out of a 73 yr old body! I have been laid up after having quite intensive surgery on my foot, 2 plates and a couple of screws holding it all together, and, although my upper body is ok to pot, it is so painful if my foot is not elevated that I’ve had to take a break - and it’s crazy how much I’m craving to get back to it. I am 4 weeks into 6 (I hope that’s all) off my foot so I’m thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks for keeping me sane with your videos! 🥰

I’m willing to age (and looking forward to it) but I refuse to get old. This was a fun video! I’ve had wax end up where it doesn’t belong so I stuck the piece in a 350 degree oven for a few minutes. It burned off just fine and there was no problem with the glaze. I hope your shoulder is healing fast.

Something even better than sheet rock is cement board. Similar to Sheetrock but made to use in place of Sheetrock in high moisture areas. Has no paper so doesn’t mold. But has the same moisture wicking properties.

Our community kiln doesn't allow stroke and coat on greenware firing... something about gassing off. Any idea what that does in the process, does it hurt the kiln, does it affect others pieces that are firing at the same time? Man, I really wanna do it with S&C, I wish I could have my own kiln!!!

I ordered the sugar skull placemat . I have made both but my question is should I run them thru the bisque load. Then put lead free clear glaze 1 coat then run it thru the normal glaze cycle. Is this correct?
@hobblecreekpottery
