No, they didn't mistake the release order; minette was the first guest star character they revealed. It wasn't a trailer like THIS one, but they revealed an animation of minette grabbing filia and turning her into a giant slushie. They released that a few months ago, I think.

I’m not sure why everyone’s harping on story mode so much. Guest stars sounds very promising and I imagine it could add a whole new layer to the game which I’m sure would bring back a lot of fans and just make the entire experience more enjoyable. Would rather have innovative ideas than just adding more of the same concept.
