It might be because he doesnt have kings brand? It might be a scripted that only activates after you get kings brand, and since he didnt get it, it didnt activate. But it does seem the animation of falling debris is activated by picking up the item, not having kings brand.

Quality of Life is a mod that disables most lengthy cutscenes, like it gets rid of that sequence, and the whole dreamer killing sequence (with QoL you just dream nail them and it skips to when you appear back in the real world). It also gives all the elder baldur's only 1 hp, so you just hit them once and be done with it, which helps if you have to kill them in a really annoying way

Own a soul gun for nest defense, since that's what the Pale King intended. Four infected break into my Dirtmouth. "What the Radiance?" As I grab my mask and some soul. Blow a pea sized hole through the first bug, he's dead on the spot. Cast my vengeful soul on the second bug, miss him entirely because it's horizontal and nails the neighbors grub. I have to resort to the cap gun mounted at the top of the well loaded with pebbles, "Tally ho lads" the cap shreds two bugs in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel wake up sleeping stags. Draw nail and charge the last terrified insect. He Bleeds out waiting on the Great Knights to arrive since rhombic nail wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the Pale King intended.
