Guess there's a reason I didn't buy this 2 years ago and just wanted to see if it's worth it now as it was recommended to me. Once I saw the transformation and bending of plastic, that's when it hit me as to why I didn't buy it back then and why I'm skipping it now. Parts forming is good when it doesn't involve bending plastics as that'll ruin the toys more than just taking it off and putting it back on. A whole lot easier to transform too.

Personally the partsforming isn't my issue, but the fact that it's a "shield" when it's clearly just a car rear. Like had they made it like Classics Prime's wind vane which turns into a gun, I think nobody would be bothered by it removing. Same with Earthrise Arcee, a hoverboard is fine but what we are getting is a chunk of car.

I see why people do, when required it doesn’t really feel like a “transformer” anymore. In this case, or for toys like Ironworks, I don’t have a problem with it. It’s optional and it’s nice to have options. Allows for screen accuracy/more play value

Earthrise CJ is the first TF in a while that had partsforming IMO most of the time when someone complains about parts forming it’s usually over stuff like taking a bed cover off (generations trailcutter) or removing weapons off of wings (any starscream in the last 10 years) But CJ IMO is partsforming

With me part's forming isn't a problem as long as that piece becomes a convincing weapon. Examples: A tanks turret becomes an arm cannon or the gas cannisters on a truck becomes guns in robot mode. Now if a literal chunk of the vehicle pops off like on this Cliffjumper and is loosely classed as a "shield", then I have a problem.

Sideswipe Studio Series is a good example of good partsforming (you can even have a "disarmed" mode for the vehicle). Earthrise Ironhide is an example of bad partsforming and lazy, lame engineering. I don't like the partsforming, but at least Sideswipe has something to offer and doesn't depend too much of it. Ironhide on the other hand... Ugh, HALF of the mode is a non convincing shield, really?

I have the opposite problem. I want everything to be a partsformer. It's so frustrating to have to go through and remove all the pins and screws from every figure. What a chore. They should just ship them with the most parts possible. Every joint separated. Maybe just send a little baggie of plastic dust.

Personally, I don’t mind MOST partsforming. Usually with weapons or as an option to make things easier but not necessary like Blackout’s tail rotor and TLK Barricade’s “riot shield” Cliffjumper does because it’s a core part of the design and you can’t do it without partsforming so that bothers me a bit. Still a good figure if overpriced.

Way back in the day I got Cliffjumper before Bumblebee because well, Bumblebee was a silly yellow. But, he turned out to be kind of a main character so of course, I got him too. Now we are SATURATED with Bumblebee so it’s good to see this guy come back.. mostly. I like the new paint but.. why so dinky? Even Huffer got a Deluxe upgrade, so come on, Hasbro! Im thinking this kind of idea was removed because it makes the figure less durable and fiddly. Its a couple of rather thin looking plastic pieces and for a toy that is partially for kids tge fiddliness plus thinnes required for the toy to still roll would be to much of a breakage risk. The transformation on its own is fun and intuitive but it can be a bit fiddly on its own. In the end the backpack and partsformy solution is better looking, more durable and fits in with the rest of the line as his shield can be used by others as well. Just my guess and input.

@@mudawott But the reason this is fiddly is because it's a third party add-on designed to work with an essentially complete figure. This didn't need to be the solution Hasbro used. Hasbro could have worked the entire body to allow the back-end to fold up.

@@emgo316 I resorted to a wrench and cutting out some of the plastic from the ruff end of the pin and that did it. I can tell you that it makes such a difference. It kinda feels like a slightly more complicated transformation of a CHUG but not quite a voyager.

@@koweedate G1 was over 35 years ago. The partsforming on those toys were mainly hands, which couldn't easily be stowed inside forearms at the time. I don't see why long-running fans and newer fans such as myself cannot desire to see better and more interesting and innovative transformation techniques as technology has advanced since then. It's the same thing with posability. G1 toys were predominantly bricks with shoulder rotations, yet I don't see many ppl happy when figures lose leg articulation.

​@@koweedate Yes, yes I do. Bandai has made some fantastic combiners, so I think they are completely capable of making Mammothzord turn into a pair of shoulders without splitting in half. Perhaps both sides of the mammoth body could be positioned on hinges behind his head. Then the entire assembly is turned upside-down, and attaches to the back of Dinozord, So that not only do you not have to disassemble the robot, but the Megazord's shield is already stored on his back.
