sky box office analogue turn off

Sky box office is switched off analouge. Sky box office 2 ends up becoming a sky digital promo, sky box office 3 bloomberg germany. As sky box office 2 was turned off it messed the encryption up so Racing channel was fta most of the day.

I remember when you could rub the side of a £1 coin over the gold chip on the sky viewing card for about 10 minutes. Placing it in the freezer until it was cold and then putting it into the box unlocked all the channels including every sky box office and movies and sports without you having to pay. Sky soon caught onto it though but still i got free sky so i was happen back in 1997

Apparently, the Videocrypt encoding system wasn't very reliable, as according to acouple videos on here, there were alot of dropouts, where the scrambling would turn off for a few seconds

My grandmother was a Sky Analogue customer. She switched to Sky Digital around the same time this footage was recorded.

Racing channel worked for a while but I think it was soft-scrambled still so you could deactivate the decoder and still see it. At least for a few hours.

the last of the analogue sky multi channels were shut off in September of 2001. analogue satellite it self has yet to be completely shut off, even though more channels get canned every month.

I think the last country to switch off analogue satellite was Germany, which switched it off in 2012. I could be wrong.

@ParanormalRob yep analogue encryption methods 12yrs ago. computing power came to the point where you could actually try and put the picture back together (although wobbly on same colour parts) Sky uses digital conditional encryption on astra 28e. 19e has mainly digital fta / encrypted channels now of france, germany and spain.

Remember this! Some channels broadcasted even fta sometime like channel 5 😉 Wonder how 28.8 east uk beam would behave in analogue would we outside uk get somekinda grey and bad picture of these uk channels? 😉 Analogue was better in that! I could sometime got bad quality but still enjoyable picture from finnish tv in northern sweden. Today you need special antennas or live roght on the border to watch digital finnish tv. In Finland other way the same thing. My grandfather have a cottage where we always got a grainy picture of Swedish tv1, 2 and 4. Today I have 28e....but channels over there are on or complete off or total unwatchable mosaic....thats the bad with digital 😢

@andrewcbo They were testing @ the uplink it looks like.. what does WATERSHED mean (and, do they still do that)? Noticed the channel changed (or did you do that) So, the UK doesn't use astra now? this is something we could have used in the states.. ohh wait, it was called primestar but that got bought out!

Watershed is basically the British ruling on when certain age restricted content can be shown. For example, movies aged 15/18 can only be shown after 9pm
