the argument some of y'all are referring to was because sky and solange were frustrated that the media and public were so eager to attribute all credit to dev even though they contributed to their respective songs as well. yes, sky did play a part in writing the version of the song that was released. maybe it wasn't a huge writing contribution, since the demo was done completely by dev, but it's worth acknowledging the contribution, just as ariel rechtshaid's likely-minor contributions should be acknowledged. because, as other commenters below this video have conveniently demonstrated, the general public tends to assume that (young) women working with male producers have zero creative input whatsoever (and that their role as performer is somehow unimportant, even though it can easily make or break a song), i think it is justified that solange and sky felt more than a little upset when pitchfork and the like would publish stories that made it seem like they didn't do anything other than sing some pre-written lyrics off a sheet and dance in front of a camera. and to be honest it put a bad taste in my mouth when dev took their expressions of frustration as a personal attack, or an attempt to take more credit than they deserved... he should be smart enough to realize that, as the producer and as a dude, he will ALWAYS win these 'arguments' in the eyes of the public.
