Harrisburg is about an hour away from Gettysburg. Unfortunately the battlefields in Gettysburg are No Fly Zones as they’re a National Park. I’d love to be able to fly there. Maybe someday I’ll get an exception waiver!!!

How long ago was this? As of 2014, the FAA has declared National Parks as No Fly Zones. This is different from launching/operating/landing rules that are often implemented by parks of this nature. If you check B4UFLY, which is the FAA’s official app for checking airspace for UAV operations, it states that flight over the battlefields is prohibited. I’m not doubting your story by any stretch, but all of the resources I use indicate that this is a no-go. As such, I’d recommend that nobody fly over it.

@@TheDroneGeek I deleted my comment because I do not want to cause any confusion, but when I contacted the FAA they indicated that they controlled the airspace above National and State Parks. I had a conversation with a Park Ranger in NJ (friendly) regarding this when I had taken off, operated, and landed outside the Park. I contacted the FAA who sent an email to the park in question indicating that they could prohibit people from taking off, operating, or landing inside the park, but the FAA controlled the Airspace. Certainly, everyone should do their own research. This was a State Park and not a National Military Park, but the FAA was pretty clear about who controlled the airspace. This was earlier this year

They aren’t abandoned, but nobody lives in them anymore. It’s open for historic tours and I think you can even rent the space for events and what not!

Historic Ephrata Cloister is a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission property and part of the PA Trails of History. Under normal circumstances we offer an exhibit gallery, introductory video and tours of the two large buildings, the Saron (Sister's dormitory) and Saal (meetinghouse).
