Sky Pond | My Favorite Lake Hike in Rocky Mountain National Park

Hiking to Alberta Falls, The Loch, Timberline Falls, The Lake of Glass, and Sky Pond in RMNP with my daughter and sister in law on July 3, 2023.
Directions to Trailhead:
Take Bear Lake Road to the Glacier Gorge Trailhead or the Bear Lake Trailhead (This adds 1 mile round trip). Parking at the trailheads is limited so you will likely need to park at the Park and Ride across from the Glacier Basin Campground. Be sure to check the time of the last shuttle.
Round Trip Distance to Sky Pond: 8.6 miles (13.8km) round trip from the Glacier Gorge Trailhead
Elevation Gain: 1,771 feet (540m)
Difficulty: Moderate, but a rock scramble next to Timberline Falls might be difficult for some.

Love your videos. Beautiful. I like how you offer comments on pacing and hiking elevation increases and showing how difficult some area are. Not sure I can scramble anymore. I’ve made it to sky pond but missed the final push because of difficulty. Nice to see it here! Thanks for another great scenic hike!

Thanks so much! Appreciate the compliments on the videos, need to record some more. I think that scramble by the waterfall surprises many people. Black Lake is a good one if you want a beautiful lake without the rock scramble.

It’s a great hike any time of year. You should try some vlogging. The funny thing is my channel, the way it is now kind of started by accident. Was planning on doing some automotive/motorcycle DIY type videos but I hated the idea of being on camera, so I though hiking in the mountains would be a great way to get practice, now here I am 😂

How long did it end up taking you from start to finish? We are going to RMNP in a little over a week and I’d like to try this hike. Great video!

Thank you! I think it took around 8 hours, we were taking our time. The nice thing about this hike is that all of the lakes along the way are nice, so even if you don't go all the way to Sky Pond, it's still a great hike. There should still be some fall colors for your trip. Good luck!
