I'm absolutely astounded how good the Quattro performed out of the box. I'm looking forward to the next clear night and the next target is the Rosette Nebula. How is everyone else's 2025 astrophotography going?

Good luck in your next session and clear skies. I bought a Samyang 135mm lens and I'm waiting for the first tests.

Waiting for first light just seems to take so long. LOL. Clear skies.

Nice, and you are right Cuiv had scared me off this scope, so have been looking at others but think I will take another look at the Quattro. Àn̈away, great video, informative

It really is a good Telescope. I'm hoping to get back out with it on Thursday. With an 80% moon it may show up possible light leaks so will be another good test. I still don't have any Dew protection though so that could be problematic but will see how we get. on. Glad yo enjoyed the video.

I ground my own mirrors and made my own scopes many years ago. One of my favorites was a 6" f/4; wonderful fields of view. Getting back into the hobby I went with a refractor, I now think I should have gone reflector; more bang for the buck. Having said that though, I expect the quality of the optics can vary a fair bit with mass produced scopes. Shorter f/ration mirrors were much harder to figure to a parabola and turned edges (undesirable) were all too easy to make. After you settle in with your scope, try an experiment; make a donut paper mask to cover the outer cm or so and see if there's a difference in the images. You might find less coma or other distortions that might be worth the loss of aperture. Hopefully, you have a great mirror, I'm sure they make those too.

That's amazing that you ground your own mirrors and made your own scopes!. I agree that mass-produced optics can vary, and that quality control is a big factor in getting the best performance. Hopefully, the mirror I have is up to snuff, but it’s always good to test and tweak. Thanks for the helpful advice.

I don't know much about this, but what is that blue line at the bottom of the image?

Hi, I'm not sure what blue line you are referring to but you may have paused the video as one of the titles scrolls across. lol
