"This time, the monsters are real." That tagline stuck with me from the start. This was the first Scooby Doo installment to be GENUINELY scary and kicked off the trend of things being MUCH more dangerous and horrifying for the gang as opposed to the original series'. And while the latter movies and series' continue this trend they still can't hold a candle to the one that started it all.

True, earlier Scooby-Doo media where the monsters are just human villains in costumes are like made-up stories from our parents when we are kids about monsters come to get us if we don't obey them, but by the time this movie was released, it's like as we fully grown up, we start to see household objects move on their own and hearing news reports of people being possesed by demons, knowing that we now know that monsters, ghosts, demons and the supernatural do exist, our parents during our childhoods aren't lying.

Then when this masterpiece starts playing just as the zombies appear out of nowhere, it absolutely gets the heart racing. It fits the montage perfectly as it embraces the horror aspect of dealing with real monsters and not freaks in costumes. What really drives home this movie is when we realize that the cat people were the true monsters and that the zombies were trying to help the gang the whole time. For context: (Spoilers Ahead) Scooby was on the decline due to being "childish". It was too safe, outdated and cliche. Then you see this movie, which not only has a song literally deconstructing the formula but was much more scary. At this point, you would expect the Zombies to just be a bunch of people in costumes for some gold or something, but then Fred freakin' DECAPITATES one by mistake and they start running. And then, out of FREAKIN' NOWHERE, THIS starts playing, this amazing rock song that embraces the horror aspect of Scooby Doo while also embracing the fun at the same time (Especially the "Here comes the really scary part!"). At that moment everyone knew, SCOOBY DOO WAS BACK!
