I had watched many of your science videos in the past, but The Cowboy Philosopher series earned my sub! Really good on several different levels. Please do more and perhaps an analogous leftist character like The Granola Philosopher or something. Taking time to laugh at ourselves, in between watching science videos, is something we all need to do more.

thanks, yes I will try and release more , trying to finish a new episode of Before the Big Bang , but a new Cowboy could be after that.

Satire? The man speaks the truth, pure and simple (accent on the simple).

😲 😯 And the gun? Is it an aid to free will? Maybe it’s the game changer - your free will or mine?
@PhilHalper16 жыл бұрын
of course, you dont have free will if you don't own a gun. lol

How close does a consequence have to be, to an action, to be considered as inhibiting freedom? Freedom from consequence seems to be related to thermodynamics. If information can be lost (ie. in a black hole, depending on belief) then the timeline as a whole becomes decoupled, allowing for different pasts to converge to the same future state. QM might seem like it does that but it is the inverse..allowing one past state to lead to multiple possible future states. On the notion of good and evil, Kant's categorical imperative seems relevant. Identify yourself with the human category..and you become OK with eating meat, torturing animals, etc. Identify yourself with the animal category, and you identify animal suffering as directly affecting your category..thus you are against it. Heres my question, lets say you identify yourself with the universe..the category of pure energy. After all, life is a thermodynamic phenomena, we are chemical/heat insulators, not all that different from a refrigerator. Except we use the contained energy to move, create, reproduce, and to compute. What is the categorical imperative of potential energy? This should be what defines our maxims of good and evil. If the universe is destined to pancake in "the big freeze" due to expansion, how can we stop it, how can we prolong the life of the universe? And if we cant stop it, how can we reproduce a universe, nested inside this one, perhaps infinitely nested (if space and time / gravity are not discretely quantized)...then maybe we can allow for infinite conscious life and experience...on the top of a dying universe of finite life. I think reproduction is the aesthetic of good. Not only in exact replicas but in spirit of things, like reproducing happyness and life and love..and change.. existence.

Hio Phil - may I use a part of it on my channel ? Backlink to Your channel will be included
@PhilHalper15 жыл бұрын
Can you give me more details as to how it will be used?
@Piochanel25 жыл бұрын
@@PhilHalper1 - I do not know if U ever watched my channel -- usually, it makes soft fun about religion and sometimes it is about speakers corner. I wanted to make an episode about free will. it will include 2 statements of myself and some other people like Hitchens, Dennett, Harris an as the fun part I wanted to include a part of Your video. I usually include credits in my videos ( I did not for the last 2) and in the description, the link to Your channel will be included with any additional text U want. I hope this is enough information for U. U can also ask Rob about me.
@PhilHalper15 жыл бұрын
@@Piochanel2 one quick questions, how long is the clip do your propose to include?
@Piochanel25 жыл бұрын
@@PhilHalper1 I wont to cut your orginal clip to neatly 2:45 min in total - my video will be nearly 10-12 min long - I can also send U a link where U can watch the cutted version today and and a link to my whole video tomorrow ( when I will be ready with it) - and than U can still decide. Of course for Your eyes only. We can do it via e-mail ( p.cohn@web.de) - or skype ( piocasso1) or hangouts. I You contact me via e-mail plz tell me here because I nearly never checkmy e-mails ;) .
