I took the Axis B License Canopy training with Nik Daniel at Skydive Arizona as soon as I earned my A license so that I wouldn't develop any bad habits. It was the best decision I made. I learned ssoooo much in that class that I am definitely a safer skydiver.

I just did my B license canopy course last week. I learned so much and have become so much more comfortable under my canopy. My landing still sucks, but that's cause I have no depth perception but I'm working on that. I do plan on taking many more canopy courses. So much more to learn.

Great video as always (the only thing I found is where you talk about toggle stalls you actually show a rear riser stall being executed). Canopy courses help a lot - having a coach looking and evaluating what you are doing not only makes it safer, but also helps avoid learning incorrect techniques which could be more difficult to fix after they are in your muscle memory.

I don't see why. You have less altitude to play with. Doing a high pull give you much more time to practice at just a fraction of a price a ticket increase.
@ipKonfig5 жыл бұрын
@@sergeig685 I'm sure you can do at least one maneuver though, not all of them. It's 5K ft. so it's still plenty of time
@olegplatonenko15505 жыл бұрын
@@sergeig685 because of traffic absence. On our drop zones high pulls are not popular. Actually idea of my comment was not to do this exercises in regular jumps with traffic around and standard deployment altitude.
@sergeig6855 жыл бұрын
I see. Our DZ allows high pulls as long as you keep everyone informed and stay off the jump run
@vornamenachname33734 жыл бұрын
It is strongly recommended to do those exercises on hop-n-pops so you don't get distracted by a potential free-fall-programme/-experience. It is always better & safer to focus on the things ahead. But if you can do a high pull (define "a high pull", over here it is about 7500ft without special clearance) it'll really give you more time to play around.

How I envy modern day skydivers - back in 1986 when I did my first jumps we were jumping with round canopies that had a tiny forward speed and a sink rate that meant if you fluffed your plf you could get hurt badly.

Rear riser stalls are easier to induce and control than toggle stalls. You can actually steer your canopy with risers in a stall. Also releasing the stall too fast will result in the canopy shooting forward rather fast. It is the uneven release that puts you in line twists.

Deep brakes before grabbing your fronts will help you pull them when the canopy recovers from brakes. Plus I'd suggest to use loops instead of grabbing the risers on front... I think most of the rigs these days has them

For what purpose you need the "spiral" manoeuvre? Just wondering.
@sergeig6855 жыл бұрын
@@Wrona84 For quick descent and they are just plain fun! Also practicing spirals familiarizes you with your canopy behavior and will get you used to high speed and g-loading under a spiraling canopy. So when you have a toggle fire on opening, or twists in a spiral you will know what to expect.

By pulling on the risers, front or rear, you change the angle of attack your canopy is rigged to. Pulling front risers gives you a down attitude and that means changing height into speed (!) while the rears are giving you more lift to change speed to lower sink rate. It's fun using the brakes first and pull the front risers. You will fly down like hell. No toggle input then... make a briefing with a well expered diver you trust prior to ANY NEW MANOUVER!!! NEVER RELY ON INPUT FROM VIDS LIKE THAT! They shall inspire you to think about new things and may give you ideas what skill to aquire but they can never be instructional. Many incidents are based on hot guns in a "just give it a try" attitude. NEVER try this in a height where you cannot cut off and shoot the reserve! Meaning at the end of the manouver when you probably have to. So your trouble has to happen above decission height! Go fly and have fun. Play safe. ALways happy landings. Blue sky. And go get an advisor you really trust. These are not the most crazy dudes at the DZ. 🤙

For landing you should do two phase movement on toggles. First is a flair (to start horizontal flight) and second is brake. One motion from top to the bottom is not the correct technique.
@sergeig6855 жыл бұрын
Different canopies, different loading, different landing speeds, it depends.
@piotrekw90535 жыл бұрын
@@sergeig685 No. It is always the same. Heavy loaded high performance canopy and students 260ft. Same principal. Flare + brake. Different execution. Sometimes with really strong wind you can have one movement.
@sergeig6855 жыл бұрын
@@piotrekw9053 You do realize that "flare" and "brake" is the same motion and does exactly the same thing to your trailing edge, right? You can't keep flying level without applying more and more pressure because your canopy is loosing airspeed.
@3Druzilla4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the canopy... so not incorrect
@Wrona844 жыл бұрын
@@sergeig685 do you realize that you have two speeds, vertical and horizontal and you need to maintain both. If you are doing this in one motion then you don't know how to fly your canopy. Sometimes during heavy wind condition you need to maintain mostly vertical speed but in most cases you should have two phase for landing.
