This song means a lot to me, I wrote it for an old friend that I lost a few years ago. I never even met her, but I miss her nonetheless. I was a young dumb teen, talking to strangers online long before I should have been. Most of the interactions weren't great, but Skye was different. She was a little broken and bruised, rough around the edges, but she was kind, selfless and strong. We didn't talk often, but I still felt close to her. She often told me about her struggles, but one night she told me she just couldn't do it anymore. I begged her to go to her parents, but she was afraid they would be mad at her. That was the last time I spoke to her. I don't know what happened, I will never be sure. I hope that she went to somebody and got some help. I hope the reason I never heard from her again was simply that she started fresh, or even got her phone taken away from her. But I can't help but assume she didn't make it. I can't help replaying that moment in my mind, over and over, wishing I had done something, anything. Wishing I had called someone. Wishing I had told my own parents. I know now that I should have and it would have been okay, parents just want what is best for their kids, they would have helped and supported me through it, so if you are a teen in a similar situation, please do tell someone. But I was a young dumb teen, afraid to get in trouble for talking to people online when I knew I shouldn't have been. So I did nothing except hope, every day, that she would get in touch with me. 6 years have passed since that day. Writing this song has helped me process everything. Due to never being completely sure what happened, I never really faced it, I just pushed it down and got on with my life. But I'm facing the truth now, and healing from it. I'm glad I'm able to share my stories through songs. I hope no one relates to this but if you do, just know you're not alone. Skye, we barely knew eachother, but I hope you're in a better place now. Whether that is still on this planet, or somewhere new.
