My prayers go out to the person’s family, the driver, and the firefighters that had to handle this situation. These are the ones that leave the darkest shadows. ❤

My uncle was a NYC subway motorman for quite a few years. He had at least one person jump in front of his train and get killed (I can't remember whether he said it was more than once). Definitely shook him up pretty badly. Back in his day (60s-80s), all they did was just give him the rest of the day off. Now I hope they have more resources to help a motorman who has to experience this.

Was riding the F out of what is now Metrotech, and just after my car entered the tunnel we went into emergency braking. Turned out someone decided to subway surf and slipped off the train. You verses train, you lose.

Sad outcome. May the deceased rest in peace 🙏 I had opportunities to be a Train Operator both for the MTA and in Miami, and in hindsight I'm glad those didn't pan out because of incidents like this. My thoughts are with the T/O as well in this traumatic situation 🙏 even in my current line of work on the maintenance side I've seen trackside fatalities and it's always tough to see.

It's sad but I wonder how often someone falls off the landing onto the tracks. and how often are they hit by a train. correct this ol country man but I think those rails are electrified so I guess you could be electrocuted if you hit the rails also.
@SkylerFireКүн бұрын
On the daily sometimes more then 3 a day
@sbrehenyКүн бұрын
There are three rails. Only one is electrified. That one has a cover over the top - you could still reach in and get electrocuted but just falling on top of it would not do it. Some people fall onto the tracks accidentally or get pushed - but many times it is a suicide. Almost every motorman has this happen at least once in his career.

Radio traffic was interesting. "is it a mortal injury" as apposed to an immortal injury?? "Abdomen is crushed" "So no obvious sign of injury". Really??
@ronthemogul2 күн бұрын
How would immortal be used in context?
@mikel95672 күн бұрын
Mortal = death so a mortal injury is a fatal one. As for your obvious sign comment, the chief was wanting to know if there were obvious signs of a mortal injury (i.e. decapitation, evisceration, etc). Had there been obvious signs of death then they would have had to leave the body where it was for the ME. But because they observed no obvious signs of mortal injury they brought him out in an attempt to save him. Crush injuries aren't automatically fatal injuries. Hope this helps clear it up.
