Interesting that you didn't mention the Hisso powered prototype that is in the photos. Trying to get some stretch from the design.

Nicely presented but just to note that it was the combination of the RFC and RNAS that went to create the RAF.

Very nice video, putting into perspective an admirable aircraft (a personal favourite of mine). One note: although I don't know Black Flight's intentions, I believe the name would be pronounced Black Mar-I-a (c.f. Mariah Carey), which is the usual British pronunciation for a dark-coloured police van used to transport prisoners. There is a very nice flying replica at the Shuttleworth Collection in England.

Would have been good, but interrupted by so many ads it was impossible to view...

Care to explain why the Sopwith Triplane was very fast for a triplane compared to the Fokker Dr1 and other biplanes??

I’m by no means an engineer, so the finer details are beyond me. To my understanding, it’s a mix of better designed wings and a marginally more powerful engine. Regardless, the Sopwith could manage about 117mph while a Fokker usually tapped out at around 107-110mph. It’s not a huge difference to modern eyes, but a ten mph difference was fairly substantial in WW1.

Circa 8.48. Twin guns.

yup. well spotted. according to the pedia of wiki, only six were ever fitted with twins. apparently performance was impeded, presumably because of the extra weight, and the extra shock of two guns firing. but that is a guess on my part.
