Not one Korean media is focusing on the concrete wall at the end of the runway as the main cause of the mass casualty. It's like as if they were told not to do so. I hope many foreign people would visit the youtube channels of Korean media and tell them to focus on this fact. Not that strange, really. Everytime a major disaster happens it turns into a tug of war between airline, government and manufacturer about who is to blame. To be fair, the pilots landed midway on the runaway, leaving the airliner only half a runway for an emergency landing. This really is starting to look like pilot misjudgment. A bird strike might have shut down one engine, this caused the pilots to panic, they rushed into a quick emergency landing. It makes no sense why their landing gear wasn't open, since there's no way for a bird strike to cause such a failure.

As a flight attendant one of my companies plane slid off the end of the runway on the US. Thank goodness there was dirt and a slight slope and just a chain link fence. No one was seriously hurt. I landed once at PHL with no landing gear, we also just slid on the belly of the plane until we came to a stop in a dirt embankment at the end of the runway. It scares me to think what would have happened if there was a wall there.

@FoulWeatherFriend385 Hear hear. Those attributing the deaths to the presence of the wall are rarely even stopping to think what was beyond the wall, never mind understanding what happens to an airplane careering off a runway at 150mph without any landing gear. Hundreds of runways exist that are less than half the length of this one. Are they bad design? As with virtually every major air disaster, several factors will be involved that all coincided. But what this looks like, initially at least, is catastrophic human error by the pilots that would've still ended up killing virtually everyone on board, wall or not.

@@FoulWeatherFriend385 ok now imagine a swimming pool that has a powerful drain without a cover, slippery improperly designed edges/walls, sudden drop-off points, improper chemical balancing, lack of barriers, and poor lighting. given enough time there is going to be a preventable incident. in most airports the ILS system at the end of the runway is designed to break away if struck by a plane. in this airport it was put in a massive earthen berm that literally disintegrated the plane when it overran the runway. it's just really irresponsible and totally unnecessary design

After it was selected as the airport construction site, many Korean experts opposed it, and the basis for their opposition was very scientific and persuasive, but a local influential politician pushed ahead with the airport construction. The area has a migratory bird habitat that is very large even by global standards. After the airport was completed, it was not permitted to operate international flights until recently. Although it was permitted to operate international flights in December 2024, it was the result of politicians from local political parties pushing ahead. A major disaster occurred 21 days after the international flight permit was issued. It is an airport that was built solely for political interests and election purposes, ignoring aviation experts and scientific evidence. It is the worst airport that runs a huge deficit every year and cannot be operated without subsidies from the central government.,,?

It is the worst airport that runs a huge deficit every year and cannot be operated without subsidies from the central government.jj

It is the worst airport that runs a huge deficit every year and cannot be operated without subsidies from the central government.

just insane. everyone knows there is huge run off for runways, everywhere i have ever flown has huge amounts of land for this reason alone. It's crazy how they built a wall on the run off and no one ever questioned it for years...

@robant5578 that's really not the point. Why did they allow the plane to land into the wall? is the point.

@leredditcommander8208 all factors should be scrutinized openly. PS- I thought humanity was past the point of blaming "birds" for disasters. 4 plane crashes in 72 hours is not acceptable for Boeing, and putting a "death wall" on a short runway isn't excusable either.

who thought it was a good idea to put a hard wall around an airport? it was a matter of time before a plane crashed into it

Do Koreans have eyes and senses? Do they know the difference between a crash and a crash landing? The plane did not crash, but it crash landed successfully, but the runway and the landing point was too short so the plane could not slow down and hit the wall and fence and exploded. If the runway was longer or there was no wall, fence, or dry ground, the plane and people would have definitely survived. The airport authorities know they did wrong and that's why they stopped the video of the plane crashing into the wall and fence, so we can clearly see that the plane was fine and didn't crash but because of the wall ahead and hit the wall and exploded. How dirty these people are... They want to hide it, but foreign media clearly shows the impact. Jeju Air did not crash, but it landed successfully, but the landing gear was defective so it couldn't stop and hit the airport wall and fence and the plane exploded and people died... This is the airport's fault. This damn airport killed people.
