Universal Credit agents 'encouraged' to get claimants off phone

Universal Credit was meant to simplify benefits and make work pay, but a report from MPs this morning says the system is causing "unacceptable hardship" to many claimants.
This conclusion is supported by a call centre agent who handles people's claims - he has told Sky News, staff were discouraged from helping claimants and urged to get them off the phones as quickly as possible.
The government has already delayed its plans for a wider rollout of Universal Credit and is under pressure to drop it altogether.
Sky's politics and people correspondent Nick Martin has this Special Report.

Universal credit should be completely separate from housing benefit and not subject to sanctions. It also needs to be paid directly to the landlord. As far as I am concerned they have redesigned the system to increase homelessness and push people to the brink of madness which will eventually result in more lawlessness and another large scale riot.

That guys explaination of Universal Credit is completely right, While i was on UC during the height of my depression i was harrased by people calling me up and telling me to fill out the journal about finding a job and attending bullshit meetings by people who dont give a damn. I was truly on the edge until i found a part time job that helped alleviate my depression i was still harrased by UC to get more hours or my pay will be docked. I have a similar story to the stories in the report. Me and my partner have worked all our lives. Then two years ago she got diagnosed with cancer and has been in a battle ever since. Because of this she is unable to work and the way the benefit system works I had to go part time as well because if I earn over a certain amount she can get no help at all. So we are just stuck in this trap of relying on the benefits until my partner fully recovers from cancer and her intense treatment which could take years.

Reading this with tears in my eyes. My best friend is currently battling breast cancer. Lumpectomy, lymph node removal, chemotherapy and yet UC call her twice a week even when she is in hospital with raging infections and low blood pressure. She applied for PIP in May and it still has not been processed. Call after call telling her to do her journal and yet another form to fill in. A sad state of affairs.

I work for a living and am a single parent. I’m in on minimum wage. It took me 5?attempts to apply for UC. It is (as a Job Centre staff member agreed on) designed to make people quit applying by putting in place so many hurdles that the depressed, mental health afflicted drug addicted ,alcohol dependent and undereducated people of society give up. That reason alone is a HUGE factor in the homelessness boom in England. I’ve got my faculties and was to close to fuckin it off. It’s disgusting that government get away it🖕🏻

This UC system has been specifically designed to be unnecessarily complicated and extremely difficult for claimants to tick all the required boxes, which consistently change. In this way the government hope to save hundreds of millions per year through claimants who simply loose hope, give up attempting to make a legitimate claim or are sanctioned within the minefield of bureaucratic hurdles. It amounts to a form of population cleansing where those most in need, are scrubbed out by their own hand. No government truly cares about its own people. It only exists to feather the nests of those without a conscience, morals or empathy for another human being.

I feared losing my benefits for any little misstep. I got to my lowest point mood-wise. I was lucky enough that the staff I eventually worked with at my local job centre really CARED about their clients. When I found my current job my coach and another member of staff who had previously been my coach were completely ecstatic for me. So happy, so proud; and not for seeing someone off benefits - they were genuinely happy for ME because I was on cloud nine that day. I can't imagine how much worse it'd have been if I'd not had those people to make the entire process less of a headache.
