@@MatthewHorne88 Problem is that Canada doesn’t have the infrastructure to supply the EU. It needs oil and gas pipelines from Alberta to the Atlantic coast. I understand that, historically, the obstacle has been Quebec that doesn’t want pipelines, preferring instead that tankers sail up the St Lawrence. I really hope Canada will now overcome those objections in the face of an American Putin.

EU and GB are in deep trouble economically, their markets are failing. In contrast US is the largest and healthiest market, every country would kill to have access to it. Canada, for example, sells 98% of its oil to US, they would have nowhere to sell it otherwise. They may try to ship the oil to China, but Chinese receive cheap Russian oil through pipelines, how are they going to compete with that?

The UK should create a list of counter-tariffs that they can immediately implement if Trump imposes tariffs. Those who have been tariffed by the US should meet and do workarounds to avoid American product and their illegal tariffs.

Trump's tariffs has driven many countries to work with China and many more will follow. Canadians would rather deal with the United Stated but Trump's tariff make increased trade with China more and more attractive. Trump should be worried.

We must declare independence from the US on Tuesday. We are just barely out of one colonial relationship and should not be forced back into a second one. We remain a member of the Commonwealth but no one here can see or feel any advantage to that relationship. Time to become a republic and look to the world for trade, not just to putting raw materials in a pipeline or the back of a truck and enriching the Americans.

It may come as no surprise that Canada currently lacks a cohesive and functional federal administration. In this vacuum of leadership, individual provinces have been compelled to engage directly with the United States, seeking their own economic accommodations. Notably, the Premier of Alberta has secured a partial exemption from the recent tariff measures a testament to the shifting nature of North American trade diplomacy. President Trump’s geopolitical priorities appear increasingly centered on consolidating American influence over the Western Hemisphere and the Pacific domain. Consequently, Europe may find itself relegated to a secondary position in Washington’s strategic calculus. If European powers wish to maintain geopolitical relevance, they must act with urgency to assert their autonomy and reinforce their strategic capacities.
