‘Diversity pick’: Labor Party’s expulsion of Fatima Payman ‘won’t happen’

Former Labor MP Michael Danby says Senator Fatima Payman would have been expelled in a “previous zeitgeist” of the Labor Party.
Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has confirmed Senator Fatima Payman will remain in the Labor Party despite her breaching protocol when she crossed the floor to support a Greens’ proposal to recognise Palestine.
“Senator Payman is clearly a diversity pick,” Mr Danby told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“She is young, Muslim ... and they won’t want to offend the current corrugation of forces inside the Labor Party.”
