The terms misinformation/disinformation are so broad and subjective that it’s impossible to see how the government could accurately determine whether something is true or not. Which leads myself and millions of Australians to question the true intentions of this legislation. It’s difficult not to speculate that this is specifically designed to filter out information that the government simply doesn’t like, as opposed to filtering fact from fiction. What’s to stop the government filtering out information that would expose wrongdoing or ill intent by the government? Or larger institutions the government is aligned with? Historically, mass censorship has never been imposed by good government., but government that has hidden agendas it doesn’t want exposed. The government must not be allowed restrict access to information or stifle freedom of speech online with this draconian legislation.
