The fire ant problem has never been taken seriously enough, despite the money spent on it.

These are already in our backyards. The guy that came out to poison the nest, could not be bothered, contacting any of the neighbours, or even coming back, to do a follow up. They just could not have given a dam. The fire ants have already won..

Years ago whenever the Govt experts called for funding for what they called risk areas, amazingly not long after fire ants mysteriously turned up and they were given more money. We keep increasing their funding yet the fire ant problem isn't getting any better, odd isn't it? WE WILL NOT COMPLY

In Brazil we have fire ants all over the country, no problem at all, agriculture is not affected at all, no health issues at all, it seems like a hard pursue for FUNDS.
@marcusbarnes59297 ай бұрын
100% correct...they are also spreading the poison around that was also prohibited in Brazil. Major endocrine disruptor..chemical castration is a pretty bad side effect on Humans.. The young kids spreading it out don't know what they are even handling with no correct PPE.

I read a few years ago about a woman in the US who sprinkled artificial sweetener powder around the nest and it killed the fire ants. It could have been Splenda but Aspartame{Equal and Neutrasweet} is more neurotoxic.

Losing battle. Never will they be eradicated. They are everywhere
IMPORTING all the quality STUFF we could MAKE, GROW, BUILD HERE. And with your imported everything, comes fire ants, Asian wood borer, geckos, fish and plenty more. You might have thought after introducing wild boar, goats, deer foxes, rabbits and caintoads that we would have learned. But progress and $$$ stifle and drown practical thought and common sense. So perhaps we should start betting on which invasive species will be brought in by greed and thoughtlessness next.

I read a few years ago that a woman in the US sprinkled the artificial sweetener Aspartame{Neutra Sweet or Equal} in powder form around the nest . The worker ants fed the queen and the ants died. It is because the sweetener is neurotoxic. If this works let authorities know. It could have been Splenda but the others are more neurotoxic so should work better.

Here in the southeastern United States I grew up with fire ants. I've been bitten more times than I can count. They're a part of everyday life here so the fact that Australia, the continent with some of the deadliest animals in the world is in a panic is amazing to me. I guess I underestimated these little guys holy heck 😮 What kind of dangerous bugs do y'all have in your yards and houses? I'm really curious to know now!

The line from The Hitchhiker's Guide 'Looks like a fish, moves like a fish, steers like a cow' describes how governments operate. In circumstances like this they should have an overseeing role only. Industries need to be able to make quick decisions and change course if needed. And be able to rely on those decisions without being tripped up by people who don't understand the details. In the case of fireants, tell the governments to back off and let the people who know what they are doing get on with building the solutions. Trust the people on the ground. Otherwise, fireants will be part of Australia forever.
@GazGuitarz7 ай бұрын
Surely you don't expect Australian governments and councils to solve this problem when they've never fixed any problem before in their useless lives? Governments are really good at creating problems .. not very good at solving them. The private sector won't help as they will be chasing their ESG scores and after some bent banana comes forward and screams that it is racist to attack them or claims they are gender number 972 their hands will be tied too. I'd love to see an audit on the money spent so far on this eradication policy.

Ants can be controlled and eliminated safely and cheaply by pouring human urine into the nests. The ants live in an acidic environment and human urine contains ammonia, which counteracts the formic acid and kills the ants and their larvae. Human urine is also an excellent fertiliser, so it will improve soil conditions at the same time. Ash mixed with water forms lye:, which is strongly caustic and will have a similar effect to the urine.
