The real problem here is that a rogue bunch of people claiming to be representative aboriginals hijacked the process. There should be a rigid irrefutable means of identifying an Aboriginal Land Council Group, such as the Orange Aboriginal Land Council who are the ONLY arbiter in matters such as this. They should have a well defined membership and structure where all members go through verification that they are 1) Aboriginal and 2) Represent the specific geographical region, in this case Orange with clear genealogical ties to the region. I would posit that none of the alternative group would meet these criteria.

One way to absolutely distinguish the right of claim is by DNA. In fact, I'm surprised the indigenous population hasn't accepted this prior, to keep everything honest. What are the pollutants in tailings from gold mines, and which way does water flow? The Darling River is part of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, And Sydney is downhill from Orange.

The requirement for tailing dams are very very strict in both design requirements and monitoring while operating, they maybe defined as a dam but are far from it, If the minister decision was based on pollution concerns and not some BS land rights witch doctor beliefs it would be more acceptable from someone making a misinformed decision
