Remove the moratorium. Labor's cowardice is hardly a virtue.
@tassied126 ай бұрын
There's no cowardice. Removing it will achieve nothing. No energy provider or investor is pressuring the government to remove the moratorium because they know it is a pointless exercise. Latest data from the World Nuclear Industry Status report shows that last year. From the World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2023, global renewable investment was US$495 billion in 2022, up 35 percent from the previous year and 74 percent of all power generation investments that year. By contrast, only US$35 billion was committed to new nuclear power plant construction (representing just 9.4 GW) in that same period. Outside of China, the IAEA's database of global nuclear projects showed just ONE reactor construction start in 2023.

South Korea, Japan, Finland are all countries with not such great solar resources or wind resources. It makes sense for them to go nuclear. It doesn't really make any sense for Australia, with PetaWatts of solar and wind potential.
@Rehunauris6 ай бұрын
Finland is leaning heavily on wind power as future energy source and energy companies don't see profits in nuclear. They already said if govt wants nuclear it's the govt (read: tax payers) who's gotta pay for it...

@@bradcavanagh3092 Numerous? . Data released by the IEA last week show otherwise. Here are global changes in energy capacity (compared to the previous year) Wind +410 GW (85% more than in 2022) Solar +115 GW (60% more than in 2022) Nuclear -4.5 GW ( 30% LESS than in 2022) From the World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2023, global renewable investment was US$495 billion in 2022, up 35 percent from the previous year and 74 percent of all power generation investments that year. By contrast, only US$35 billion was committed to new nuclear power plant construction (representing just 9.4 GW) in that same period. Over the period 2023-26 the IEA forecasts global wind and solar production will increase by 3200 TWh while nuclear will increase by just 200 TWh, and that is starting from a low base (2022 was a very bad year for nuclear with French nuclear output at a 30 year low)

You can promote this every day, Kenny .Lobbyists from overseas nuclear power plants won't decide this. It's all egible Australia voters at the ballot box .At least they won't get paid heaps of money like you, Kenny.

You’re absolutely right, Labour is wedded to renewables through its voter base and fear of having to admit it was wrong on renewable wind and solar. The odd thing is they really are renewable, you get to renew them every 10 years.
