Alcohol or acrylic inks could be effective here too and give the ability to tint the light a specific color. “Eldritch green flame” to create that wicked cool Daedric broadsword just means using a wash of different inks with different colored frit.

Looks great man! That glass really did it. Also hell yeah. Skyrim, 9 years on and still going strong :) Suggestion for gradients - try to do some wet blending instead of using washes, it's a lot easier than it sounds :)
@Nat1videos4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Karl! What is wet blending ..??
@Karlmakesstuff4 жыл бұрын
@@Nat1videos Short version: blending the paint on the model when it's still wet. Gives lovely creamy smooth gradients. In your case, say you were painting the transition from white to orange on the metal rods. First you paint the distinct colors. Next, you add some more orange paint and while that's still wet, you sweep some fresh white paint into the orange, blending it as you go. Takes a bit of practice to get the gradients to start where you want them, but once you get it it's dead easy. Bit messy to explain in text, but if you check my video where I paint that ruin there's a bit early on where I'm painting the plaster this way. You can also look up videos by Sam Lenz, he's an absolute boss at it, though following the example on a mini might be a bit trickier. Still worth it just to see him at work though.

Michael, I'm working my way through your backlog of videos. I've already ordered the bullseye fite. As we've discussed before, I think adding a Terrain Tronics Conwy board could have/would have added a significant shrink in size of hardware versus the tea lite. Do you think having alight light this remote controllable would have, would be more beneficial -- in a D&D compaign, a goal could be to relight the fires of *insert name of fantasy location*. Anyway, just some ideas :)

Great video and great project! Why black modpodge instead of black primer?
@Nat1videos4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It’s a preference to use modge podge really ... I find that it not only seals the project but also adds a little more stability and structural integrity in area like the joints etc. It is pva based so is an adhesive as well as a sealant. Black primer wouldn’t have that same component, especially in spray can form, although it would be fine to use ... I have nothing against that approach, if it works it works :) Also, a lot of the crafters I have learned from use this method so I have picked it up along the way and it has become a force of habit. The results work for me. Do you use black primer on your projects ?
@pitchlink44994 жыл бұрын
@@Nat1videos I started way back by painting miniatures and priming them with black spray primer. When I got into scenery (not all that long ago) I just thought I'd carry that over. Learned that when priming foam I couldn't use the spray paint because it melts the foam. So I bought an airbrush and just started making my own black base coat paint for my airbrush from guides I'd seen on KZbin for thinning and mixing acrylic paint for airbrushes. I've never tried Modpodge before. Really just unfamiliarity with the product. Your reasons for using it sound convincing enough that I want to give it a try now. I like the idea of the added strength. My only worry is that you mentioned it's pva based. What about warping? I've had some discouraging experiences with using pva for basing and flocking scenery, and having it warp the base I'd built the piece on (the projects were usually either 2'×2' or 3'×2'). First it warped my foam base, so I switched to 1/4" mdf board. It warped that as bad as the foam, so I built the next project on 1/2" plywood and did it in sections. It warped THAT. I'm guessing the Modpodge doesn't exhibit the warping problem?
@Nat1videos4 жыл бұрын
@@pitchlink4499 I honestly have not had a problem with warping the base yet... maybe once slightly on a cardboard base that was super thin. Have had no problem's at all with foam warping. I guess try a few experiments, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I totally understand using the primer for minis by the way, that makes total sense.
