40 tests and 4000 runs. And he will be above all. Difficult though. What he will need is form and longevity from 34-38. Thats the bracket that Sachin did extremely well especially in ODIs as far as I remember, between 2006 - 2011.

Remember ,once A cook was expected to break Sachins record. Cook had age and time on his side. But sudden loss of form ,forced Cook to retire in 2018. I expected Cook to play till 2021.

India is scheduled to play 32 test till 2027 WTC final Virat will play only 32 more matches , 2500-3000 runs at max , with 8-10 century IMO So does with smudge , 33 test till 2027 So root gonna finish above all other three , that's fir sure

Just look at the average of another GOAT Jack Kallis and he bowls at 90 miles as well😮.....but with Root, I think he will do very well but that Sachin Tendulkar's record is still way far fetched .....he will have to play more than 200 games to get that and even his average is less than Tendulkar,who maintained it to 53+ for over 200 games ,Root currently at 142 games with an average 52+ . Still a modern day great for sure...

Smith missed some test for ball tampering. The main stat is the average and they all have averages of 50 except Smith who is closer to 60. Also depends where you play your tests. England is a difficult place to bat with the weather and Dukes ball.
