I don't get this whole link between transfer fee and position. There's no correlation at all. By that logic Neymar should be able to play LB perfectly fine because he's 200m. Pogba is an attacking midfielder and that's how he's played for most of his career. It's like expecting someone to use a hammer to cut grass - you've got to play him in a system that helps him get forward and not play CDM with Matic (i.e. play a 4-3-3).

Pogba's best performance was away to Everton when he didn't have to play alongside Matic, when United played Herrera there instead and gave Pogba more freedom. I know Herrera has had some injury problems since but it seems odd that Mourinho hasn't tried that formation again.

When he got Matic we were expecting him to free Pogba of his defensive duties and focus more on his attacking role and with the likes of Mkhitaryan,Mata,Martial and Lukaku in the front goals should come but no we don't play like that we play on counter attacks which leads to Pogba just sending long balls on the sides or just giving it to Lingard and he is held back.

The problem is the rigidity of Mourinho's team formation. Very little fluidity.. Whatever people say, Pogba was a versatile CMs before he left Juve.. A guy like that needs the freedom which Barcelona managers afford to give Messi or which Pep gives KDB.. For that to happen, the team play should be extremely fluid, which a Jose team never is..

Pogba is being Jose'd. Jose demands his players both defend and attack. All that tracking back destroys some players (Mata, Schurlle at Chelsea). You won't see the best of him unless he's unleashed - but I doubt it'll happen under Jose, who always builds from the back. Jose is a track back specialist, no wonder he prefers a 33 year old winger as his left back to his 22 year old natural left back. his problem with luke shaw is that shaw attacks too much which is not jose's kinda thing. and you're right on the effects of tracking back on attacking players. just check lukaku, a number 9 who is always in his own half. he (sometimes) does well to help defensively, but his potency upfront is negatively affected.

The issue is he doesn’t know his best team so keeps chopping and changing which is really affecting the chemistry and momentum. Also at Juventus he had Pirlo doing long passing and Vidal doing the dirty work for him so that meant he could get forward and create. At United Herrera should be doing the Vidal role and Matic should be doing the long passing role however they may not be as suitable. I’d personally have Carrick doing a Pirlo role and Herrera or Matic doing the Vidal role in a 433. The other issue is there’s no CAM in a 433 so Sanchez and Martial will have to share wing duty.

what everyone seems to miss is that when pogba was at juve he was in the best team in a 1 team league. of course he was going to shine when he has the best team around him against much lesser opposition. Pogba has all the attributes to be a great player but i fear because he moved to juve he missed out on learning his trade with some of the best midfielders of their time playing against teams that compete week in week out. if had stayed at utd he would be much further along than he is now. i feel that he has to learn his trade all over again. but this team he might not do it because of the extra pressure and intense focus that is on him. If i was his agent, id be looking for a move to PSG preferrably, real madrid/barcalona or munich. To a team who are playing way above nearly everyone else in their respective leagues because this utd team with this utd manager will expose his weaknesses and hinder his development. To me it’s a team issue and a rhythm problem. The guy hasn’t had a consistent run physically and competitively through suspension and injury. Then to add you have a team that has lacked confidence after a few bad results that derailed their title chances. Also the guy isn’t the finished article. He’s still a player that has to come into his own with his best years still in front of him. He’s still learning. Give him time. Blaming mourinho isn’t fair. Lampard was transformed under him. Gave Lampard the confidence to be one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.

Guys in the studio are right about pogba is not utilised properly but when you look at Manchester united defence you have to restrict Pogba's movement because Manchester United defence doesn't give you the Confindence they can keep clean sheet on their own or handle an attack of other teams. Plus, Manchester United's attacker 1.Rashford like to dribble and loses the ball quite often 2. Martial doesn't put pressure on other team's players. 3. Lukaku is not mobile enough. 4.Lingard you just cannot predict what he is going to produce. 5.Sanchez- not his usual self plus injury issue. Midfield- McTominay, Fred and Pereira are not good enough. Mata and Matic past their best.

Pogba is over rated, De bruyne switched from number 10 to deep lying play maker role and everything worked just fine. Manager is a bit of problem but Pogba can't just get a pass for his poor performances. Pogba goes missing moment a quality MID is there to mark him.

Lamia Saeed You can’t compare KDB to Pogba. KDB is a player with great vision and passing, he’s the best Mid in the PL. Pogba is more of a box to box power house who drives forward or beats players with skill and pace. He’s not being given the license to do that by playing alongside Matic. That’s like Pep putting KDB alongside Fernandinho. If United had another top midfield player alongside matic the pogba would be a better influence on the game. Just look at his performance against Everton and you’ll see...

It's simple what Jose needs to do. 4-3-3 with Matic playing as the holding midfielder. Then have Pogba playing CM with the licence to get forward as he likes running at opposition. Herrera can play as the other CM who i feel is a good player but for some reason, Jose hasn't been playing him often

What’s Redknapp talking about? For a manager who supposedly doesn’t like having too many attaching players his line up against Newcastle was very attacking. Pogba, lingard, Sánchez, Martial and lukaku. All attacking players. The biggest problem Utd have is they have no one in centre midfield who can supply the attacking players. A fit Carrick would be perfect.

Not sure how I feel about people saying (in comments) pogba was better at Juve because he was playing a different position free of defensive duties. In the 3-1-4-2 they played, Pirlo was the defensive midfielder and it wasn't for defensive insurance, he was a genius but needed protection from the two in front of him which was usually marchisio and vidal. He was never used as a traitional cam. He may do better in a 4-3-3 but far more likely to me is that at Juve he was in a world class team in a league they practically dominate these days and at United he isnt. Not sure he really knows how to best use his talents either

The biggest problem is Jones and Smalling...why can't we play blind and matic in a 2 behind pogba and defenders should be Lindelof and Rojo or Lindelof and bailey or best dojo and bailey and mind you Lindelof started as a midfielder as well and he can play with Matic which should bring great balance to the side...

Remember when Modric used to boss games playing alongside Jermaine Jenas? But Pogba needs the verratis and Vidals of the world. Look at Lampard. He was a proper box to box player. He could defend the full 89 minutes and the one minute change the game. Mourinho got the best out of Lampard. He was their top scorer in the pl and all Competitions the first year he won the pl with Che. Why do people think that it's Jose's fault that Pogba isn't performing?

The only thing stopping Pogba becoming a premier league great is Mourinho. His negative tactics don’t suit his game or even Manchester United’s. If we were playing free flowing attacking football, the gap between us and City would be a lot less. Pogba has so much ability but it’s being restricted by playing him in a 2 man midfield. I hope Jose see’s the error of his ways and revamps the United Midfield. I think Fellaini and Mata should be moved on, Herrera is a good squad player to have and I’d like to see more of McTominay and Pereira in the first team. Fabinho from Monaco would be my choice to bring in and hopefully allow Pogba to affect the game more offensively.
