Ganon's had the title of "Demon King" since the original game. Due to localization changes, we just never heard him referred to as such until Hyrule Historia, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: both of which pre-date TotK. Instead, what we first heard his title as was "Prince of Darkness"; a title most commonly associated with The Devil. Probably due to the commonality of the title of "Demon King", this change was most likely to distinguish Ganon. Especially since other characters, such as Bowser, and King Piccolo from Dragon Ball, were also called Demon Kings.

@@santiagopomares6287 In the original Japanese manual for the original game, Ganon is specifically referred to as "大魔王ガノン", which literally translates to "Ganon, The Demon King". I don't have the original Japanese manual, personally. But I have read translations done by and seen video footage of people who do, even going as far as to cross-reference Japanese terminology. The translation notes I read had also noted how the moniker of "Prince of Darkness" was pretty much a Western equivalent of the moniker of "Demon King", and that the usage of "Prince of Darkness" successfully drove home the idea of what kind of being Ganon is supposed to be. Even speculating the one who translated the story for the intro of the game had extensive knowledge of both the Japanese and English languages.

My theory is that BotW and TotK are both a reset, of sorts, for the LoZ series. The background for the TotK title has a double ouroboros, which usually represents something cyclical. I believe that eons have passed from the last game, that the kingdom of Hyrule has come and gone. And now, it has come back again. Much like Ganondorf, Link, and Zelda reincarnate, the whole of Hyrule will reincarnate once more. This is the only way I can see where all other previous games can stay canon and make sense with BotW/TotK current lore.

I’ve seen theories like Ganon is the will of Demise that continues to reincarnate and that when Demise curses them that he’ll return he locks Link and Zelda into the cycle along with his will. That’s why they always look the same or similar

I mean, it's the Triforce game theory thing: Skyward Sword was focusing on power and had the lore given with Demise's/Ganondorf's part of it explained Breath of the Wild had a lot of blue, and gave the spotlight to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom still had Zelda enough in the spotlight, but it was logical after BotW, but then Link got the situation with his arm, it was green centered, and the shrines of totk were really more focused on the Hero himself in their goal than the shrines of botw imo So having SS and TotK being that similar isn't that surprising to me tbh

I’m Totk I did the final fight without any sages for funsies. I beat it. I somehow beat it. The construct was the definition of pain and for Ganon, I just kept flurry rushing him and timing my flurry rush with his counterattack until I got one off
