Great video. I’m also learning how to SL and here’s a few things I’ve picked up so far: When you’re not sure what to do: look at the map, points, and friendly assets and seek to fill gaps or exploit a niche. Especially If no one’s defending, always defend. Stopping a double neutral or a steam roll is always worth it and defending is usually easier than attacking. I try to think of my squad like a bug or a rat. We’re going to go exactly where they don’t want us to. Also asking command “where do you want me to go” has always been met with a good response.

Sometimes even if you think you know what your objective should be, asking Commander what his priority is always good. Esp if you have a good commander.

Keep the videos coming man. This is another great lesson in Squad Leading. Direct Squad to Squad comms are super underutilized at the moment and I'm glad your bringing awareness to it. I've tried to implement my own knowledge being a ham radio operator into this game to use brevity and not clog up the air. It works wonders when the other SLs can use the num pad but sadly a lot of my direct comms get returned in global, but here's to hoping that changes.
@col.kernel Жыл бұрын
Our familiarity with HAM Radio is probably why it bothers us more than most. When everyone knows the rules of radio formatting, it's works like a charm, and it would solve SO MUCH of the information bottlenecking that excessive global-comms causes.

Enjoyed this video. You are an excellent Squad Leader with good leadership instincs, clear and concise communication and with in my view faster than average thought process skills (despite being unable to provide average metrics myself, its purely my own assessment based on my own in-game experience of around 2000 hours, a large bulk of these as Squad Lead or overall Commander). If you were not a good S.L. then I would not bother writing the following. This took some time and effort to type on a mobile phone screen, so despite its criticisms please take it positively. In other words I only bother with effort to those deserving of it. *Reference to your "Hectic 30 seconds" segment - on this I have points: Please note your medic - "BANGBROO" spotted a Repair station on his Charlie Mark and then a HAB on his Charlie Mark. You instinctively opened the map to quickly add a mark on the HAB, which you placed as a Radio Mark. This is still good, but an actual HAB mark and FOB creation Mark on it to find the radio would be better for your Squad, so they can quickly open and close maps otherwise they need to hover over the red radio mark to see the FOB placement outline and that means they spend more time on the map than doing other things such as searching for the radio or looking out for enemies. You should have also done this for the repair station. I will explain why shortly, but first... ...you also did not remind the Squad to "Check Maps". Always say "Check Map" on Squad Comms to remind your squad. At this point radio placement triangulation can be done very quickly via 2 FOB creation marks, One on the rep station and another on the HAB, with the radio being within both FOB creation mark's centre circle's overlap. The RADIO had not yet at that stage been found. By the way, that HAB is an easy undefendable HAB to assault. The reason: its early game. Most of the RU forces are not back capping. Therefore they are still alive, and cannot keep respawning off that HAB. So you should have the manpower numbers to proxy with manpower superiority especially after the liquidation of those 2x RU infantry crossing the road moment's prior. This however would be invalidated if there were 2x plus Squads in that location, or even more armoured vehicles than the TIGR RWS. Unlikely, but not impossible. Also the TIGR RWS is still a potent threat but not as much a threat if infantry can take cover in the village's compound and buildings that the HAB has been located. But still a threat nonetheless. So therefore the next point of all aggression and focus should be the immediate and merciless proxy of that HAB, followed by a dig down to "sticks" level and subsequently an ALL infantry force searching for the radio. When finding, 2x shovels dig down to bleed. All other in-squad callsigns in a 100 metre full circle defense radius of the 2x other in-squad callsigns digging. Meanwhile all riflemen rearming the LAT and HAT asap for damaging, disabling or destroying the TIGR ... if ... and ONLY IF ... the TIGR moves aggressively TOWARDS you. Right not at best it is no more than a distraction. Matters of course CAN and DO change. So reaming is vital and as the Squad Lead you MUST enquire as to the status of their ammunition. Subsequently to FULL bleed and RADIO COMMUNICATION confirmed visual disappearing WIPE of enemy RADIO an immediate disengage to either: 1) helo or fast 9 seat vehicle or multiple smaller-capacity seated vehicles to redeploy to the enemy's likely 2nd back cap via knowledge of either Squad Lanes or memory of Yehorivka RAASv11 CAF vs RU. Or 2) rejoin the CAF front line OR 3) one of the above options but movement on foot due to no vehicles being available or being able to make it safely to your location. At this point, I will now continue the remainder of your video and I will come to discover what awaits. I don't know if I'll be able to offer this same type of energy for any further observations I may discover 😂, let's see.

Once again rewatching later in the evening to formulate the thoughts that were buzzing my first watchthrough. Amazing shit as always with such a similar cognitive track to how I have been evauluating existence in squad, especially as a coordinated teamplayer that has contrastingly casual gametime and meta/map knowledge. I actually had a pretty good radio setup that mirrors my usual Arma 3 technique of putting my long range or backpack radio on left ear and sqd on right - especially since I tend to take my right ear of my headset slightly off after calling I'm coordinating on the platoon net or command channel and passing discretion to my team leads which are honestly usually just the biggest assault and cover kits respectively or even just the most vocal players. Similarly, I default to the 'You, Me, Message' format with the numpad shortcuts for at least half of my command chatter. Why are medics always leroys... But further, and especially since the sale/epic giveaway, Ive personally had a lot of behavioural issues from pubbies lately. From refusal to work as a team, to constant criticism, to excessively or personally problematic humor, and just plain bigotry and griefing. Now some rounds have absolutely shone thru where I can kick the offenders without retalliation or server staff descend from the heavens to deal with the shit. But unfortunately it feels like the majority of my rounds aredragged down by conflict. It does get worse when I try to lead which is my preffered after warming up if only so that i can moderate the experience and set the vibe and expectations I find effective and fun, as thats why we are all playing and those that want to have fun in a different way from me are encouraged to so so with another more like minded squad imo. But I've been playing milsims for the better part of a decade to some success so I can lead a team of gamers fairly well concistently. I go by Jessica in game and its very tiring but some people make it a problem concistently every play session. Tbf pretty much a me issue but learning the measures in which to act to overcome the obstacle ig. Your redeploy take is a perfect vocalization of the icks I get with that system and the expectations the meta puts on the player that dissonate (?) your immersive grounded first person, essentially story - with a highly gamified system disconnected from time and space. I like the rally system in large part because it's limited in space generally by your footmobile movement and in time by the time it takes to stabilize your wave of casualties or whatever. Not to mention the cascading entropy of cohesion after this goes awry. I Swear respawn retreats can disintigrate teamwork for the rest of the game, an evaluation of that phenomena, if it is as such, would be interesting. On Rallies; I like it a lot as a mechanic compared to squad deploy beacons in other fps for a variety of reasons. Mainly that its an excersize in essentially identifying terrain natural or urbanized that you can hold with some offset, but with a high speed path for movement - not up a cliff face or across an open stretch to obj. Generally, I'll have my medic and myself strung off it in an inner line (also helps cuz they then tend to keep u on ur toes setting up the rally) and a fireteam of cover kits (AR/SAWs, Sharpshooters, or even just long barreled or optic rifles especially in urban terrain) ideally setting their own fighting positions forward of that, or adjacent to it depending on if the maneuver element is expecting to move straight, or laterally, from rally on the attack. If I have 2 medics as preferred I give one to each fireteam based on who has the optic and in turn encourage more autonomy in the fire and buddy teams. I also play with my girlfriend who prefers medic, and our convention is for the plotting of rallies to be pretty much her responsibility in mind in terms of a CCP where she can collect casualties or alamo on and thats honestly so fun and so far effective, not to mention relieveing in taking something I have to keep track of and sharing the consideration and accountability with another head. I think respawn vehicles as in arma 3's hemmts or the spawn trucks in KOTH - or the sunderers in planetside could be an interesting inclusion in Squad. Actually yeah planetside's a good model with the limited squad spawn, spawn vehicles and airframes, and finally long term installations that need to be logistically supported. 2 cents and tangential but I found the thought interesting. On the radio discipline, I often find that players can fall into planning infighting or criticism or like... rabid confusion? Like an animal lashing out because it jsut doesnt know wtf is going on.. but more commonly, just the general conversational planning dialogue in trying to get multiple squads of pubbies to orient onto/within/around given objectives. I think I might try out getting sympatico squadleads to pow-wow on a hab to coordinate a defense or prior to moving to try and attack through coordinated angles/tempo of fire and maneuver. Some of the late AM homies really bring it in the chill and eagerness to cooperate and succeed. Especially when as you said you can introduce some cooperation. A few times calling helos or passing contact reports over direct (and advising people to change channel when they respong in cmd) and it can set a good orderly atmosphere for the rest of the game. Manifesto and a half but just got some good reps so the kernals were fresh and steamy

@ItsJessdMe Жыл бұрын
I don’t know if this advice is helpful to you or not anymore as it looks like this is pre-ICO footage but I noticed a few technical things that would help gameplay a bit: Don’t waste rockets on helis. Also don’t try to kill the pilot, you can’t shoot him thru the chopper at all, even if you can see his head thru the gun turret. Rockets hitting helis make for cool KZbin clips but they are ineffective half the time. It’s always best to just shoot at the tail rotor. When that heli landed over you you should have just full auto his tail and you might’ve killed it. An MG within 1-200m that’s an easy kill. I always tell my LAT/HAT kits to not waste time shooting at helis. For one it’s very hard to hit them. Secondly, even if you do hit them many times the rocket will do no damage unless it hits in very specific spots or it’s a tandem. Even then though they can just bug and do no damage. Always better to shoot. Also your AT would’ve had ammo to kill that MTLB easier. Tilde to bring up the console and type respawn to suicide. You’ll get a 90 second respawn but better than a tk. Squads now defaults better audio settings. The volume levels still aren’t perfect but at least they now fault squads in one ear and command in the other. The comm language was really good advice though.
@col.kernel Жыл бұрын
It's v6.01 footage. This was def not the best showing for my AT gunners, but it's a tricky kit to play, and I can't aim rockets for squat, so I don't fault them too bad.

"Hey you" ...."it's me" That's an easy way to remember the message format. Replace "you" with their squad name and "me" with your squad name. Also it's better to get a reply from them first acknowledging they are listening.

I wish I had mentioned the 'hey you it's me' meme, it's a handy way to remember it. In any case, people collectively using it in their games will have a bigger influence on comm-culture anyway.

pretty minor as far as SL fuck ups go. I've had way worse. I get the whole 'teleporting is cheesy, don't split the squad' ethos, but for the strat you were running, you have to basically consider yourself a suicide squad. Get in, disrupt their cap as best you can and then GTFO. Sometimes if you're lucky you can hold their first cap so well that your team caps every other point (which I've managed to do a couple times and is the greatest SL score I've had) but as soon as you see they've capped past you, you gotta call it.

Game needs a mute Command chat key. I know its a bad idea since people will always have it off(People can turn down Command chat volume to 0 anyway) but it could be helpful for when you really need to concentrate on what your squad is saying and the battle.

75% of SL's job is to listen to Command chat. Radio discipline def need to be cleaned up, but it's getting better, at least on the servers I play.

I enjoy watching this series (obv bc i suck at SLing, and i want to get somewhat better), but listening to you complain about realism is just irritating. I get that you want the game to be more "realistic and immersive", so why you just don't go and play MORE realistic and immersive games like ARMA for example? Squad is in a perfect state of somewhat arcade and realistic, which allows players that love online shooters (Battlefield,COD,Insurgency Sandstrom etc.) to get into a "MILSIM" game that just don't require reading 100 page manual to understand how to play the game. I'm so fucking tired of "MILSIM VETS" that come into Squad and complain about "GaMe bEiNg tOo cAsUaL".
