Thanks for this. One thing worth mentioning about StudioLogic - they seem *years* ahead of Korg & Behringer when it comes to software updates. eg. The software to configure the nanoKontrol Surface & smaller £40 controller unit you mentioned still won't run on Big Sur .. 1 year after release. Which is why I'm likely to get this thing - simply because it works. Eg. Logic 10.6 came out and SL already have an update for this controller - and even certify this for the new M1 Mac's!

That’s very cool of them! I had to give this unit back so didn’t get a chance to find out how good they are on software updates! Nice one!

Thanks for providing this video. First of all, the title of your video is a bit misleading because this is not a full review of the SL mixface. However, you did present some valid points, but I see this more as your “preferences“ than information that people should seriously consider when making a purchasing decision.

Hey Chris, I think you missed the point of this Mixer. Studio Logic offer you an inexpensive Midi Controller with a Superb Action feel and yet Super light. A lotta musicians love the fact that you can feel your Virtual Instrument much better with that. This Mixer brings a complimentary feature to the table, so you don’t have to use your track pad or mouse to control all the nuances of those Amazing instruments. A little example is using the faders as Drawbars for Organ or using cutoff to change the Acoustic Piano in Real Time plus are you aware of iOS instrument Apps? That is a new platform growing day by day for live musicians like myself. No mentioning the use of backtracks Live also. I Believe that’s what they are going for, for Live Musician that’s looking for an Awesome Controller with a lotta options in controlling DAW, VI and iOS devices and quite frankly that’s the Future!

Thanks for your video Chris! It's funny to hear your criticism and suggesting the X-Touch... as I just dumped my Behringer X-Touch and I'm looking for a new controller for my DAWs that really works :-) This one seems a nice alternative cheers

Hey that's great! In fairness to it, it's a neat little unit and if you don't need motorised faders then it will do you well! Thanks for watching!

This is an add-on for Studiologic’s SL series keyboards bringing them more in line with Arturia’s, etc. ranges. Interesting to get the perspective on it as a standalone DAW controller though!

Did you actually test the Bluetooth? I feel like there shouldn’t be lag for simple midi control; obviously audio is another matter… I could see myself using it with iPad sometimes. Mostly considering it because I’m thinking of getting an SL88.

How does the Shik controller compare to the MixFace from Studioligic?
@dragonstead2 жыл бұрын
I just got mine 2nd hand at 80 quid, so comparing it to the behringer x touch isn’t really fair, nor are they anywhere near the same budget class. Personally, i love it so far. Use it as a daw controller for logic. The physical transport control helps immensely with tracking. Not tried the bluetooth functionality yet, but for 80 quid this was a bargain.

This is a piece that is mostly design to complement the studiologic keyboards, your criticism goes out of context if you divert from that purpose. However, it does the job in the same way the other controllers of its price range do. If you had a sl midi controller, your opinion would’ve been different.

Looks like there are issues with Nord keyboards as it works fine with other Keyboards Yamaha Arturia ….

Can the pads on the mix face be used to trigger drums ?

Do you know if it's possible to assign knob or sliders to to for instance the filter fequency knob in ableton. I just bought this mixface, but until now it's pretty useless for me.

can it be used as a sequencer like the "Behringer BCR32/Zaquencer"?

Sorry, this is by no means a „full review“. Was hoping to see the device in action, learn more about Bluetooth in combination with an IPad and details about the control mode, which you don’t even mention. Bluetooth could be in fact a killer feature for connecting to iOS devices (btw Bluetooth LE has very little latency), and in fact there are very few MIDI controllers out there with BT, even though it’s 2021. So, either get your facts right or don’t pretend you have a clue. The review part on appearance and mechanics is Ok but overall you are just scratching the surface of what the thing can and can‘t do. The video is ok as a first glance look and feel but please call it that way. Wasted five minutes plus the time it took to write this, but maybe it helps you to create more informative videos or at least correct titles in the future.

Although you are right, I want to step up for the creator and say: 1) I enjoyed the video and it helped me 2) If anyone expects nobel prize winning review scope and depth in a 5 minute video, that person is somewhat misguided in their general expectations on this platform For me, reviews like this are gold because they provide an informal opinion in an easy to consume format. Although I agree I would have loved to see that bluetooth in action :P

Thanks for this comment! I would have loved to showcase the Bluetooth but from what I remember, I didn’t have long with the unit and couldn’t get it working at the time. 🤷🏻♂️

I think is focused for the working organist, it's expensive but works really well with all Hammond vst. I bought a type of nano kontrol... faders too separated from each other (bothers me), can't do the barking organ full drawbar techniche, also I was looking for something more organish feel... I've been working with the Numa Compact 2x, then I got the SL88 (main keyboard) but I missed the drawbars and here we are. It should be promoted as a MIDI Drawbar Controller, not a "Mixface", it has nothing to do with mixing.

@@freedomseeker01 this wasn't my point at all. It's simply more enjoyable for a gear focused vid to put the star of the show, the gear, front and center. No offense to the creator, but in this genre of video, it really is the gear or software thats the star and is what people are most interested in seeing. Even just the eye candy of seeing gear you may lust over retains attention and is more enjoyable for the viewer.
