As a doctor from a non-medical blue collar family, saying there’s no nepotism in medicine crazy to me. Most of my cohort came from medical families- saying that has no bearing on it is ridiculous. From having the funds for extra tuition your child’s entire life, knowing exactly how to work the system and interview well to get in in the first place and help your kids in that way, to being able to help prep for the exams that you’ve had to do your whole career and being friends with other consultants who know that the student on placement is your child makes a huge difference. Not to mention the fact that your child is not going to have to worry about making rent and working part time jobs in order to focus on studying full time. Yes it’s challenging and you still have to put in the work but being from a medical family makes a huge difference and I don’t think any of my friends in that situation would even suggest otherwise. Yes you worked hard, but so many other people not in that situation have to work much, much harder and face additional challenges.

I live in Connecticut 10 minutes away from Pratt and Whitney where they build airplane parts and I’m within 45 minutes of the nuclear power plant, a marine base and the airport. The first time I noticed drones outside my house there were four of them… One of them would stay still, while the others would move around it, and slowly, the four of them navigated their way towards the neighboring town over a period of like 3 to 4 hours. I think it was 4. Since then there’s a high likelihood if I go outside past 7 PM that I will see at least one, but usually they travel in threes (at least that’s what I’ve noticed). Creeps me out
