Another nice outing, as usual. An observation: Re the landing of that heavy and feisty catfish, your six pound test line seems much stronger than the six pound test line I use. In my case, that challenging unexpected fight would have ended like, “Oh snap!” Back to crappie. Can you tell if a school is moving left or right when you see it on your sonar screen? I know you’re an expert angler, especially when it comes to bagging Clearlake crappie, but I can’t figure out how your casts are at least three times more likely to get bit than those of your clients who are casting to the same school as you. If my memory serves me right, even a seasoned pro like Ed couldn’t match your success when he was fishing from the back of your boat. I know the slightest detail can make a difference on whether or not a crappie will bite. What little details am I and your clients missing?

I just follow the school with the Live Scope where ever they go and cast to them, maybe you’re thinking of something else. I share everything when fishing. I think the #1 thing is reel really, really, really slow. The catfish was caught I believe because the drag was set correctly and yes it was in 6 pound test. Jim, come on a trip with me one time and I’ll show you everything I know. Who knows, I think it’s the same things that you know.

@ Thanks Jim for your swift and candid reply to my probing questions. My hope is to launch at Clearlake soon when you’re on the water too. If that happens, rest assured I will eagerly seek your face-to-face and boat-to-boat guidance which without a doubt will make me a better crappie angler. Over the years your videos and always gracious replies to my endless questions have helped me tremendously in more ways than you can imagine.
