Please do more Slackware videos. It seems your cat loved the topic too. :)

I will, but first, I have to learn more about it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thank you for publishing this video! As a fledgling Linux user, (with even less experience on Slackware) I appreciate you going through the processes of updating the system as well as showing that one would need to re-configure their bootloader. That is a detail i would have surely missed!

Very informative and easy to follow "HowTo guide". I've tried some "Slackware based" distros before (Absolute Linux , Salix , Slax and Zenwalk) and liked them all. But never tried Slackware . For me, It's time for "No systemd" distro and preferably a stable rather than a rolling release one. Thanks for your time and effort on making this video. I've enjoyed every second of it.

Great video as always. Your voice is very calming. But, I think that after the kernel update, you are required to update the boot loader.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes you're correct. Did I forget to do that? That's an important thing to leave out of an instruction video. Thanks for reminding me.

Wow this is a life saver, I was having a problem where the window manager would fail to start after an update on a fresh install.

I watched all the video, and it's very exciting, but can you talk about Suckless tools generally and on Slackware? I wish you luck 3>

System update actually upgraded the kernel, so of course you had to run liloconfig again (or update-grub, if you had GRUB instead of Lilo). It's not a preemptive strike, it's a must.
@linuxmench211810 ай бұрын
Obviously you didn’t watch the whole video and take into consideration everything I said. Your comment is moot!
@G.B...10 ай бұрын
@@linuxmench2118 I don't really want to argue, feel free to call it a "moot" or whatever else. But yes, I did watch the whole video, although I didn't have to for that comment. All I needed to know is the kernel was upgraded, therefore Lilo/GRUB *must* be updated. If the distro doesn't do that automatically, you *have* to do it yourself. That doesn't sound like a "preemptive strike" to me, it's just a must.

Possible way to install the Nvidia driver on Slackware

Since I love a good challenge I did a full install with desktop. I used it for a week. My take? I would rather go to the dentist than do that again.
@linuxmench211810 ай бұрын
I thought it would make for a good video. I wouldn’t live in it. I use Arch btw.

@@linuxmench2118 I am an OS junkie. I have tried countless distros including freebsd, slackware, and Arch. My very first Linux actually was slackware in 1994. I tell you, when X windows started the first time I about wet my pants. Currently using Xerolinux and must say that I am an Arch fan. Love your videos, keep up the amazing work.

Hi, supposed that you installed it on a VM. But if you know , does it support Secure Boot ? Because I think it doesn't. Can you make some videos for beginners who use Linux , on how they can improve / harden their security off/on line ? Maybe I am wrong , but some Linux distros even don't have the Firewall ON by default ! Then , the majority of Linux users ( I'm talking about the newbies ) thinking that a Linux OS can not be affected by viruses / malware ?! and .... ClamAV .... as far as I know the only .... for LInux ?!
@linuxmench211810 ай бұрын
Yes my install was in a VM. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought secure boot has to do with your bios settings rather than your OS. It’s true, Linux is not immune to viruses. Yes, most distros come with the firewall turned off by default and some don’t even have it installed. Earlier this year, I made two videos on ClamAV and in most of my install videos, I show how to turn on the firewall, usually in the gui, but sometimes in the terminal. Perhaps I should do some short videos about the firewall rather than embedding them in install videos. It might be time to update my ClamAV video. Thanks for your suggestions.

@@linuxmench2118 I am a newbie. I have a pc with only Windows on it , but I like to dual boot Linux/Windows, because I "heard" that Linux is more secure , more stable, more resources efficient , etc,etc 😀 than Windows. Newbie - I don't know if my BIOS has SecureBoot active or not. Some friend prepared a bootable USB stick with Slackware 15 on it. Somehow I've learned how to boot from an USB stick😀 ( ... I am a newbie ) , BUT , Slackware 15 installer giving error / not working = conclusion : CRAP. Another friend giving me an USB stick with Fedora 39 on it ( luckily KDE version 😀 ) - and to my surprise , everything goes flawlessly ( well , I am a consciousness Newbie , I've learned how to partition HDD for a dual boot Linux/Windows install ) . Why Slackware15 not working and Fedora39 working ? - because S15 not supporting SecureBoot and F39 does ! Now that I have Linux installed , and "computer stuff experienced Friends"... told me it is virus/malware proof , etc😀, Newbie - directly doing online banking, "free" torrents downloading, porn watching, etc. , because Linux is "trouble free", screw up those who said to me that I even do not have a Firewall installed, what ? Antivirus for Linux ?! what is that ? they said that Linux can not be affected.... 😀. Cheers ( think now you got my ideas of my previous comment )
