Slade is one of the most underrated bands ever. Noddy Holder is an incredible singer. There isn't a band from the mid 70's through the 90's that doesn't site Slade as one of their inspirations. So many of their songs have been covered by other bands .

KC Chiefs Fan they most certainly are underrated, they're very popular in England, but they couldn't even get arrested in the US, so very few people in the US were even aware of this band and a of those people who have heard songs like "Cum on feel the noize" & "Mama weer all crazee now" aren't even aware that those songs were originally recorded by Slade

Slade are part of the Brit DNA and held with affectionate nostalgia.........Merry Xmas Everybody is played every Christmas at every party, everywhere. This is one of their more romantic songs...they were a fairly playful, first wave glamrock band. Noddy Holder the lead singer was put on the queens birthday honours list and copped himself an MBE for services to music. He and his guitarist were prolific songwriters.

This was the song along with Run Runaway that finally got Slade airplay in America. They were huge in England from about 1971-75 but couldnt hardly get any airplay in the 70's in the States. Quiet Riot had big hits with two of there songs. Cum On Feel The Noise and Mama Were All Crazy Now. Just thought I would give you a little background for you.

Well, my dear, this is later Slade. Back around 1970, Rod Stewart (for whom I was working) said, "I know a band you would like, Slade." I don't know if he was having me on or not, but I saw them in concert and went crazy over them. They were so loud, the people in the front moved back, we didn't! Saw them many times and partied with them once via invitation from the lead singer, Noddy. Now, you need to go back and see the REAL Slade and see the spellings they used for their titles. By the way, many people thought Quiet Riot wrote Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum On Feel the Noize, but they were original Slade recordings (written by them) that were hits in England but not in the USA. Also, Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody is a hit every year in England. Noddy said it was the easiest song he ever wrote because he just thought about his childhood during the 50's. (His gran really did complain about the new rock and roll but got up and danced anyway.) He is so enthusiastic that you just feel you should be celebrating this holiday! However, during their comeback in the 80s with this song and Run Runway. with MTV videos. made them a hit band in the States for the first time. Plus, their New Year's Eve song, All Join Hands, is a tradition. By the way, in England at Midnight, they cross their arms and all hold hands and sing Auld Lang Syne...then they cheer and kiss. I think this is a better way to bring in the new year...with a sign of peace and togetherness. Sadly, they all ended up hating each other and will not even talk to each other or have anything to do with each other. Plus, they all wrote their own autobios! P.S. Slade songs were always, as you say, repetitive and fairly simple and that is what people liked about them at the time.

It is an anthem. During the time, 1983, the US had Reagan and his insanity and the UK had Thatcher and her war against the middle class. There were a lot of people who were against the right at the time. I don't mean to wax political, however it is relevant here.

This song came out a year after I graduated high school, I loved it, and Slade had been around since the early 1970s, but at that point, it had been a long times since I had heard anything by them...even thought the group was disbanded. So it was nice to see them get this minor hit. They also did a remix of one of their old 1970's songs,...Cum On Feel The Noise and I think it made it up the charts quite nicely the 2nd time around too. Another song I like that they did was Run Runaway. And, yes, My Oh My, is repetitive, but sometimes songs like that just work...almost puts a person into a 'zone' and in this case, at least for me, a relaxed one.
