I’m a die hard Slade fan from the 70’s, but also AC/DC, Rush, Rainbow, Springsteen. To see Slade at Reading was off the chart, I’ve never forgotten it. Or the whole chicken flying thru the air 😂 Noddy and that voice, he is the best

To who ever filmed 'Slade' at the Reading Festival 1980, could you grow a pair and release the footage into the public arena and deal with the copyright issues after. It's gone on long enough.

Me and my mates were (and still are) hardcore rock/metal fans. We saw Slade at Bradford University a few months before Reading and they absolutely brought the house down. We were at Reading, and when Slade were announced as the last minute replacements for Ozzy you could hear a pin drop - except for a few denim clad Yorkshire lads in the middle of the crowd who went bonkers. We knew what was coming - they totally smashed it, and got 30,000+ rock fans bouncing up and down on a balmy August evening. Slade at Reading is still one of my greatest rock’n’roll memories.v

I was there as well, the crowd who were mostly there for the metal were raised on Slade and loved them. Great weekend that, stoned for three days, Rory, Pat Travers, UFO, Whitesnake and the fledgling Iron Maiden along with Saxon, Tygers, Samson, Def Leppard. I remember the parachutists coming down during UFO's set, has that ever happened at a festival before or since ?

Was meant to be their last gig, they were on the verge of splitting up due to dwindling record sales. They got a phonecall at the last minute to fill in for Ozzy Osbourne as he was under the weather. This one gig shot them straight back into the stratosphere.

That was when punkrock and heavy metal were introduced. A time change in rock style. I started by then to lose interest in Slade after "nobodys fools" - a terrible album in my opinion. With those gospel chorus in title song in an attempt for pleasing the american market???. I must admit I also had some problems with the flame album but all in all it was an ok album. The next "whatever 'appened to Slade" was a very good album. But the fact rockers wanted something new and different and that became their downfall if we look away from internal busts they had. I revived my interest in Slade when they introduced the "til death do us part". I'll say one of the best recordings ever!
