If I were to give a guess, the whole reason Lich even bothers with BMO is because he’s already wiped out all life, and even if BMO’s not technically “alive”, it sort of just gives him one last goal to alleviate his boredom. Because at this point all life’s already gone/enslaved and BMO is no real threat at all to the Lich presumably.
