Gone are the days when Pitchers would throw 200 Pitches in a game and was looking to pitch again the next day. Max Scherzer was taken out after throwing 110 Pitches in this game. The Walk to "X Man"(Xander Bogearts) put Scherzer at 110 Pitches in the 7th Inning before being removed.

Former Red Sox Shortstop Jose Iglesias bobbled the Jacoby Ellsbury ground ball, right after Max Scherzer was taken out fro Drew Smyly, to load the bases before Shane Victorino comes to bat. From what I understood, Iglesias also got A World Series Ring and A Full Winners Share of the money after the Red Sox won the World Series.

They should have kept Mat in the game, I’m a Boston fan but the Tigers coach made a mistake by taking him out. Go SOX
@Jiltedin2007 Жыл бұрын
I felt the exact same way, also as a Red Sox Fan, but that Bogerts Walk had put Scherzer at 110 Pitches. The greatest decision Manager Jim Leland ever made was stepping down as Tigers Manager after the 2013 Season. Scherzer should have stayed for at least one more Batter before being taken out, he was the Tigers' Horse that year. Perhaps he could have gotten the free swinging Jacoby Ellsbury next for Out Number 2.

How did the Tigers let Max Sharchzer walk? I don't understand it
@ryanzeitler3 жыл бұрын
They didn’t. He walked on his own, they offered him a huge contract and he declined. I’m a Tigers fan, and I’d say it was probably the move that put Max into the Hall of Fame. What pitcher would pass on the chance to be in the NL for the next 7 years?

On the 3-2 pitch to Bogaerts in the 7th at 3:18:41, the pitch locator showed it to be a strike. The home plate umpire was a longtime Red Sox fan and never should have been in that crew. Total screw job by MLB, who wanted the Red Sox, not the Tigers in the WS for ratings reasons. Jumpy Jim Leyland then pulled Scherzer and that was the end for the Tigers. If Bogaerts were called out as he should have been, and the Tigers hold on, Justin Verlander comes back for Game 7 and the Tigers have a good chance at making the WS.
@djcavanaugh4 ай бұрын
An automated ball-strike system might have called it a strike. In the world of human umpiring, the catcher had to move his glove a bit to catch it, which prevents framing the pitch. Although framing should not matter, glove movement should not matter, they do matter. But even if Bogaerts strikes out, that's only 2 outs. The Ellsbury grounder is still booted, Victorino hits a 3-run HR instead of a grand slam, the game ends 4-2 instead of 5-2. Pulling Scherzer, booting a ground ball, and failing to score in the final 2 innings are 100% on the Tigers. Under the most charitable analysis, you can't use a ball/strike call to ignore sloppy fielding and rationalize the Tigers bullpen completely out of the game. There may be an infinite number of parallel universes, but the Tigers don't win the 2013 ALCS in any of them.
