Nikon Coolpix A Review

Nikon has introduced a small digital point and shoot camera with one giant sensor. It's called the Nikon CoolPix A and its a bit strange. From the looks of the camera, a normal person would think its just a digital camera but a small DX logo near the lens would tell otherwise. Underneath the almost featureless body the Nikon CoolPix A features a 16.1 megapixel CMOS Sensor directly lifted off the Nikon D7100 DSLR.
It's capable of taking amazing stills and full 1080P HD Videos. The oddity about this camera is the lens itself. Not only is it a fixed focal length but its permanently fixed to the camera itself. Obviously its for keeping the size down but it does take one giant feature away from a big sensor camera and that's interchangeable lenses.

D500 vs D3s (DX vs FX) The D500 aps-c has better low light performance than the D3s full frame. Size doesn't matter and it never did. What mattered was the SNR firmware, DNR, ISO processor and pixel pitch. Not the overall sensor size. The D500 has better high iso than the D810 which are in the same generation. Now we have small mirrorless cameras shooting 51200 iso that are aps-c and have the same noise as my old D3s has at iso 6400 that's 3 stops and they have twice the megapixels. My Z 50 has better images than my D3s but I still use my D3s b/c of balance, speed, and battery. 5000 vs 300 raw images on a single charge.

I’ve recently bought one of these, as they’re now way cheaper than when introduced. The image quality and exposure are excellent, but it’s prone to vignetting at anything smaller than f8.

I love the idea of this camera, but I feel like this camera is kind of a waste of money. I just picked up a nikon D3200 new for $350 with a kit lens. I know that thats super cheap for that camera but I would still take a $500 dollar D3200 with a few lenses over this coolpix A for the same price.

I stopped the video when you said GINORMOUS XD By the way I don't agree with the comparison with a DSLR. The point of this camera is the compact size, and you can't have that with a big sensor and zoom lens. You have to make compromises

Look, I know you guys at phone dog are trying to be more like techno buffalo, Engadget and the verge. But you guys have built a legacy around phones and to deviate from that is going to confuse your branding. Not to mention, the reviews not involving phones are terrible. There are too many photographer KZbin channels for you guys to compete with, like digitalrev. Your best bet is to stick to phones. That's what you know and its what your best at.
