The Scream franchise is by far my favorite! Love Ghostface! Clown in a Cornfield sounds pretty good, thinking about picking up that one!

From these slasher recs I definitely need to read the Kill River series (especially since we are pretty much in the summer months, at least here in the South), Witching Hour Theatre, and The Summer Is Ended and We Are Not Saved. All of these books sound fantastic. I also still need to read Clown in a Cornfield. My favorite slasher will always be the original Halloween. I first watched it when I was a kid, and I was obsessed with everything Michael Myers.

Wow, I just tried to buy a copy of "The Summer is Ended..." and could not believe the prices! Looks like that needs a reprint stat! I also just finished CLOWN and could not believe what the author got away within a YA book. My favorite slasher is definitely SCREAM as well. I love that it's the slasher series that centers the mythologizing on the survivor instead of the slasher.

A big factor I like in slasher novels is survival, characters aiming to survive unfortunate circumstances, using their skills and characteristics that aid them or hinder them in the drastic, terrifying situations they find themselves in - Slashers usually utilize this formula and I find the character relationships with one another heightened, a character's actions can cross-over to another and vice versa leading to relationships being destroyed, built or worse-case leads to that character's death unintentionally by the past actions of another. And of course the deeper the character the more readers want them to survive, that goes for me at-least. There's endless possibility for that factor to take and it changes within the different settings and the character's relationships with one another. A big reason I loved the Kill River Trilogy having finally read all 3 of the novels and the character's interaction with the setting, thoughts on survival that can at times be selfish, and relationships changing for better or worse with each other. Camp Carnage has been added to my list! Thanks for the recommendation!

You are so right. That's definitely what makes the good slashers so good

Just started "Camp Carnage" only read the prologue and chapter one so far, but as I was reading the first chapter when we are being introduce to the character Billy, I was thinking if this were ever a movie, I could see Noah Schnapp protraying as Billy.

I literally just added all of these to my “want to read” on goodreads. I have been in a rut with forcing myself to finish, then dnf “gallant” by ve schwab. It was not for me. My fav slasher film is the original I know what you did last summer. I’m a hardcore Sarah Michelle Gellar lover. But I do appreciate the Scream franchise. I’m excited to see how they will keep going after this last movie

I don't really like slashers to be honest, but I saw that The Witching Hour Theater was only 0.99 so I went ahead and bought it lol. I also have Clown in a Cornfield sitting on my shelves. I thought that maybe since it's a YA I would be able to handle the gore. Kill River intrigues me, especially the nostalgic aspects of the book. I would never be able to read a slasher with small children, especially right now in light of the shooting in Texas.

Complete understandable about slasher with kids. This video was definitely filmed before the recent events

@@TheShadesofOrange yeah, I know it was. I wasn't implying that you were being insensitive or anything 😉 I just have a kid around that age (first grade) so I know I wouldn't be able to handle it. If you haven't read it yet, Paradise Club by Tim Meyer seems like a summery slasher 😃
