Robert Eggers's filmography is one of the best out there over the last 10yrs; The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman & Nosferatu.

I think this is my favorite review/limerick from Jeff, ever. I was listening to this on my way home from the movies and cackling at his impression and limerick

A+ limerick. Also, this episode provides some good options for Filmcast alternate titles: The Filmcast: “Horrific… But Weirdly Sexy?” The Filmcast: “Intentionally Upsetting Trip Into Madness” The Filmcast: “It Feels Dickensonian”

I love the movie and the idea of a movie where the vampire is related to the occult and demonology. This movie effectively delivered on this type of story. Nosferatu is a monster (in fact considered to be the undead plague carrier) and is primal in his motivation. He is death. He is a manifestation of ba'al the demon. His connection to Ellen and his motivation to seek her out is simply because of her psychic / paranormal abilities and this is what drew him to her. Finally, we have a vampire movie that doesn't follow the same old tropes. Vampires should not be sexy and monster movies should not be confused with romance.

How long until we get an eggers movie that stars Aaron Taylor Johnson and Anya Taylor Joy, with Defoe as a guest star.

I find it funny that people miss that Ralph Ineson has been in as many Eggers' movies as Dafoe has, 3 out of 4. After seeing them in Nosferatu,I have to ask, how long until we get an Ineson-Dafoe buddy movie in the vein of The Lighthouse XD

Is it very well shot. It deserves nominations for cinematography. Now, as far being a horror movie. Honestly, it isn't that frightening. The voice is a bit over the top. And the plot is too small. It is a well done remake of the "original rip off" of Bram Stoker story. The Bram Stoker story was better. And if feels like that. And it feels small because of that lack of development. I guess that's not technically a nock against the film making. But the plot probably needed something added. A reinvention of the characters. It needed to be a "inspired by the original," not an actual step for step remake of it. But yes, good acting.

When it comes to the craft on display, everything is top notch and Lilly Rose Depp is an amazing actress in this one. But the one thing that prevents me from really getting on board with this version is Count Orlok himself...I thought the design of him was just shockingly ineffective. To tell you quite honestly I thought he looked ridiculous which unfortunately dragged the movie down for me.

Huge eggers fan but I couldn’t disagree more. This movie was a miscast snooze fest, I didn’t feel a thing for any character or a single chill/thrill or scare. Shocked that his work declines with more money and resources

I really don't see why people praising Lilly Rose Depp. I thought it was bad. Even mores than Aaron Taylor Johnson.

Every review I’ve seen from others is so over the top. Most of us have never heard of Eggers or his previous movies. So I went and watched the Northman and it was so boring I barely lasted 40 minutes. I just hope this isn’t as boring as that. But sadly I’ve now read some audience reviews and they say it was slow and boring.

Not everything is going to be for everyone. You didn't like it, that's cool. But I guarantee you that most people who listen to the Filmcast are very much aware of who Eggers is.

It's like Eggers grab the 100 year old masterpiece by Murnau, put it thru' ChatGPT and wrote the prompt "make it like TWILIGHT but darker, shittier, artsy fartsy and f*ck up the ending so it's look like a fever nightmare from a modern western woman", lmfao. I'll stay with the original.
