During a recent investigations at the Eagle Pass, Texas export pens, WHFF/EWA investigators notice a tagged for slaughter donkey go down in a livestock trailer as the trailer was leaving the export pens. Immediately the driver was notified by the investigators of the donkey going down in the trailer, yet he continued to drive on. Investigators followed the trailer and called law enforcement. At one point the driver pulls over and speaks to the investigators as they plead that he does something to assist the animal in need. They were informed that "donkey's just lie down," by the passenger of the vehicle. Investigators informed that law enforcement was called. The driver continued on and then stopped at a gas station and he and the passenger try to get the donkey up. To no avail they decided to continue to their destination. It is not known what the condition of the donkey was other than it was told to them by law enforcement, that the situation was taken care of. While it is undetermined, it does appear from looking at pictures and footage that an additional animal was also down in the trailer, not just the one in the far back of the trailer.
