In this lecture Slavoj Žižek discusses the universality of anxiety, Lacan's theory of truth and subjectivity, the inconsistency of the symbolic structure and his polemic with Badiou in relationship to Jacques Lacan, Alain Badiou, Sigmund Freud, René Descartes, Jacques-Alain Miller, Antonio Hardt and Michael Negri focusing on being, truth, the real, language, knowledge, the existence of animal life, death drive, transposed belief, the figure of the neighbor, terror, political enthusiasm and capitalism. Slavoj Žižek, Ph.D., (born March 21, 1949), is a senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and a returning faculty member of the European Graduate School. He has also been a visiting professor at a number of American Universities (Columbia, Princeton, New School for Social Research, New York University, University of Michigan). Slavoj Žižek recieved his Ph.D. in Philosophy in Ljubljana studying Psychoanalysis. He also studied at the University of Paris. Slavoj Žižek is a cultural critic, philosopher and film theorist who is internationally known for his innovative interpretations of Hegel, Marx and Jacques Lacan. Slavoj Žižek has been called the 'Elvis Presley' of philosophy as well as an 'academic rock star.'

Hmmm... i agree with Slavoj, philosophers are not here to give answers, they are here to help us ask the right questions.

Zizek being who he is, it's probably just that he keeps on talking after he finishes the lecture and gets up to go to lunch. I don't think there is any real editing going on, just someone at the school volunteering to tape and upload the lectures.

I find Zizek so interesting to listen to but I have problems thinking about how one can apply his ideas to practically begin to ease the large problems that we face... ecological degradation, inequality of opportunity, geopolitical tensions, etc.

great videos. i was wondering they all seem somewhat imcomplete, is there further sections that will be released or is it just the editing that make it seem that way.
