That was fabulous, closely approached understandable and coherent. Even if I don’t share much of his analysis it’s important to understand different ideas. Irrelevant, but made me want to visit Slovenia, looks beautiful when I had the preconception it wasn’t. I had assumed this was filmed in Switzerland.

One of the most coherent interviews I've heard from Zizek in a while! I've found a lot of his recent “anti woke” critiques confusing, but this clarifies a ton. Thanks for sharing (:

7:15 humanity's greatest obstacle is argumentation - how to reconcile opposing narratives, ideas and values without the use of bloodshed and threat. I have a possible solution, it is a practice of a conversational principle I call "attentive speaking" which means that the speaker has to always be attentive to his audience, especially if they are his opponents and allow for any interruption of theirs, that means he has to stop talking whenever they want to say something and address what has been said. This is the true gentleman's way.

11:53 to be able to achieve this, humanity will have to be able to talk with each other and agree about what is just. There should be as much debates as possible about what people see as the greatest of injustices - Israel and Palestine, Religion and Atheism and so on... These debates should be as least moderated as possible.

I really wanna get the monkey joke can someone explain
@tudor04657 ай бұрын
The joke is that the monkey dipping its balls in customers whiskey is such a regular occurrence that the musician has written a song about it and assumes that the man is asking for him to play it as a request, not for actual clarification on why this absurd thing is happening. The fact that the musician is romani doesn't really impact the punchline, it's just because it's a stereotype in the balkans that gypsies are usually freelance instrument players (lăutari we call them in romanian)
@Wikiwoow7 ай бұрын
the musician, instead of telling the customer why did the monkey dipped his bals in his drink, he started improvising a song about it, because he thought the customer was asking about a song, but he was asking about something that happened.. the same way idiology often gets detached from real and just gives us songs, slogans, rules..

More comments about the Rammstein shirt than about the content. This precisely is the level of listeners today. And you can go to any field of lecture and debate. These self declared jokers are pouring their deep insights over us in desperate search for likes and recognition. Cancel this ! And, to conclude, Waldsterben hasn't slowed or decreased. On the contrary ! We as humans haven't got a damn thing under our control. We are helplessly dragged along.

Let's be honest. Average human in 2024 can't even watch anything longer then 30 seconds.
@hawkstrike186 ай бұрын
Guys, why? Is what you wrote useful? Besides, I personally expected worse comments, it seems something (the length may be relevant indeed) kept certain ppl at bay. In fact, 99,9% of the planet's population didn't come here and didn't comment, whatever that means in practice. I fully agree on that many/most (not all) ppl are trying to appear clever and witty (or provocative or caring or masculine, etc) under every single comment section regardless of topic but if we are just looking down on others who comment aren't we doing the same in practice?! Humans are insecure, we should remember that in some way we all are. And in the end you don't know what those who don't comment or don't come here, think. So, maybe it's better to cut the detrimental and possibly unfair generalizations ourselves before we bash others. I see this everywhere too, ppl trying to judge others while (seemingly, here too) participating in the same behaviours and mentalities... Aaaand now I probably just appear as if I'm here to look smarter than you. Hopefully it shows that's not my point. And hopefully it wasn't your intention to exaggerate and generalize and look down on others, as jokes are part of the conversations and another way to criticize something anyway, and part of this very video from what I gathered... But everyone is ready to look at everything the wrong way nowadays (I used to be depressed and I understand certain parts of the pessimism, if not all). Well, cancel that too. And most importantly cancel everything fanatical and absolute, we desperately need to calm down and become mature and objective.
@hawkstrike186 ай бұрын
One way or the other, the left are always in a position where they gotta apologize, while the (hyper) conservatives are not only two steps ahead (let's not analyze how or why, but it's obvious) but everything they do is also perceived as a major act of resistance, and holy (well, crusades are related to that so it makes sense in a way). I criticize (and facepalm at) the exaggerations of "my" side too but he seems to ignore the above to an extent that to me seems a little bit exaggerated (and an "own goal"; classic leftist behavior -_- as if being cornered isn't enough... unless it happens because of that). But objectivity and honesty (and preferably benevolent humor) are always admirable and part of the solution, so I'm hooked, the more I listen to him. Okay, his take on pessimism really fits mine, too xD
@recoilAbs5 ай бұрын
I don't think he ignores the danger of the far right, the exact opposite, every time I hear him calling their potential victory one the greatest catastrophes of our age. His point, is that what you call the left's "exagerations" and not just punctual mistakes but signs of a deeper philosophico-poltical malady. Stuck in unproductive holes ideologically, and ineffective in capturing the growing discontent of it's historical supporters, eg: the working class. So that unless the left can reform itself, kill a bunch of it's sacred cows and adopt new better cliches, it's almost guaranteed that the far right will win.

Economic integration of essential infrastructure is the path to peace. European Union began with European Steel and Coal Community. We need international smart grids and collaborate on long distance infrastructure to create a new global supply chain for the clean industries, primarily the smart grid transmission lines themselves. I think subsea cables for island nations to interconnect the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the Virgin Islands and then across Central America and back up to California to help balance 24/7 clean energy across long distances and tie our infrastructure together to promote peace through prosperity

Every living system discounts the value of its environment by the requirements of its dissipative processes. How does a yet more massive and complex open system not discount its environment less than regional or local systems, already in operation? Are "we" talking about a system that subsumes nature and its overarching emergent purpose? Is that the meaning of human desire that has no limits to its repudiation of the the radical instability of nature and its accidental purpose? Ok philosopher how can we comprehend and control the world without universal causality and an infinite order of energy for the unlimited knowledge, and another infinite order of energy for the unlimited work of controls? (Also reversibility of all processes...) Oh, we must rely on our influence upon the world that can align nature with our aspirations by chance? Science backed superstition is the "solution"? Hail Nature, baby.
