I'm going to be a NL defender here for just a moment even though I do think he should learn to play better soon, but, the sentries fight isn't even a very vital fight for NL. He doesn't lose often on them and the bigger problems are the floor two enemies and not playing defends. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" is a quote I both hate and love because NL uses it to continue to do a strategy, whether for better or for worse and in this case it isn't very important for him to kill the sentries in the right order compared to, say, knowing the right most enemy is the entangler on the second floor fight. I'm only saying this because I see the sentry comment about twice every video and it is neither in jest nor is it memey, although this one was pretty nice.

Shuriken: "Every time you play 3 Attacks in a single turn, gain 1 Strength". Underhanded strike doesn't count, because you don't "play it", you activate it by discarding it. In the same way, using a skewer doesn't give you x attacks towards shuriken, because it's for how many attacks you "play", not the number of attacks inflicted.

Underhanded Strike doesn't proc shuriken because you aren't PLAYING the card, you're discarding it thus procing it's effect. Shuriken requires you to play an attack in order for it to work.

Can someone explain why you shouldn’t kill the middle sentry first? I understand that the outer ones alternate with the middle one but is it just because it makes it harder to block all of the damage on the turns where both outer ones attack than if only one attacked?

Thomas Surette I think its because its harder to block for 16 one turn than 8 every turn You can turtle them, once the first is dead. Put up 2 blocks, and attack once, so youll take no damage.

I think it makes the debuff and damage more consistant. So youre only taking 8 each turn, though this isnt a huge problem if you have enough defense ore damage to kill them before they attack at the same time.

Yep. Because odds are you can probably draw 1 ~ 2 defend, so it's safer to have 2 alternate attack than synchronize, also make it more likely that you will never have terrible draw (both putting daze into you but you draw no attack is awful)

I can say this one was okay. He didn't realize that you gained the energy if you didn't discard the cards. He even tries this out later with only underhanded strike in hand not expecting the energy gain, and remarks that he received the energy anyway. It's a common thing in most card games to physically require you to enable the card's cost before it will allow you to gain the benefits. Stuff like "Discard 1 card, and, if you do, destroy one minion"

It can be worth it. The determining factor is really in terms of what choices you have. In many cases, Lizard Tail will pop in the middle of a multi-hit attack and you'll end up back at 13 hp or something. When that happens, unless you were already about to kill the final boss or you have a campfire up next, Lizard Tail probably didn't matter. But, if you have a choice between Lizard Tail and a relic that gives you extra energy or something better, then that benefit might have been the factor you needed to make your run pop off and help you kill enemies. So NL is right, Lizard Tail MIGHT be worth it, in any scenario.

Takes the risky 3 strike transformation. Handed the keys to the kingdom with Bouncing Flask and an immediate Noxious Shop. Takes Terror with 3 attacks in the deck. Rewarded with Ice Cream to make Concentrate good. Takes a bunch of bad attacks like Bane and Underhanded Strike. Loses. That run put up a giant billboard that said "Don't take any attacks" and you just ignored it.

I believe Concencrate with an empty hand will still give you energy for next turn because of ice cream. HE'S DONE IT Also use corpse explosion on the soon to be CORPSE. Not a terrible misplay for a card you never use.

Dear NL, Idk where the backlog sits but I’m a concerned watcher trying to help. NL... StS isn’t like your average card game, it’s no hearthstone. You don’t build decks based on whatever strategy you feel like implementing. In StS the game decides what you need to do to win based on the card choices presented to you and moreover the relics your offered. There is NO SUCH THING as an agnostically good card or one that fits every build. Period. For example, skewer was a crappy card in your 2nd run, just awful. Why? When you have both ornamental fan AND shuriken you go HEAVY on card draw and on shivs, endless agonies, and other cheap attacks you can spam. Skewer is the opposite of that, it sinks your energy into one big attack. Shuriken and the O Fan back to back is virtually an automatic win with the Silent, most of her builds thrive on multiple attack’s. So if you actually want to improve at this game, or at least be less frustrated about losing, the easiest, easiest way is to look at what your relics are telling/BEGGING you to do. Build the deck the game makes you build, the relics will show you the way. Then, once you know what that build is only pick cards that can completely justify their place in it. You must keep in mind there’s an opportunity cost associated with every card you pickup. Whenever you select a card that’s one more obstacle in the way of you drawing the perfect card needed for each play, each turn, and each fight. If you try these tips I promise you that you will start improving, and assholes like me will have nothing but respect for the improvement and nothing to criticize. Signed, A concerned viewer P.S. I give you a hard time sometimes, but you just earned a few hundred thousand respect points mate. If he reads this single comment, his gameplay would improve by an order of magnitude. Seriously, a few sections added on draw versus energy, damage versus defense and this reads like a walkthrough guide. I was also pissed about him blowing the perfect run handed to him on a silver platter. It's like he wants a specific thing and can't focus on what he's getting because it's not that. If he spent a second to take in his best cards and the relics he's got, with the knowledge you concisely provided he'd jump like 20% winrate at least. Best comment of the series I think.

I appreciate that man, we’ve had our disagreements but eventually we reached the same place. And agreed, he’s too focused on building a deck type rather than that type coming to him. There’s certain relics and even certain cards that if you get them they should define your run. You get paper crane, weakness, ironically, becomes your greatest strength. Snecko eye, dump almost every zero or one cost card in your deck. But the player doesn’t get to decide which relic turns up. On this run he got the holy freakin grail though. I don’t think I’d ever even seen a run were someone got the O fan, shuriken AND kunai. Incredible! I also like the points you added as well, how your turns play out tell you what you need to change about your build. If you always end turns with extra energy then you either A need more draw or B more expensive cards to play (unless you get ice cream of course). If you regularly draw hands full of strikes and defends you need to start removing them like crazy. And yeah I think your right, he tries to do too many things in each build. You can’t have a discard, poison, defense, shiv build with wraith form thrown in for kicks and expect to win lol. Focus on doing one thing, ‘maybe’ two, but do that one/two thing extremely well. If your blocking for 60+ every turn your damage will eventually take care of itself, as long as you don’t only have strikes. But for now I’ll just settle for NL getting the basics of deck building down. I think he can do it but he needs to know what he’s doing wrong first. We’re watching him build the same types of decks with the same cards over and over again expecting different results. Eventually... if he gets the relics that support him then this deck type will work, but the other 90% of the time he’ll lose.

I’d also like to point out the fact that he thinks the ironclad is easier to win with then the silent shows he’s still got a ton to learn about the game mechanics. The Ironclad is good too don’t get me wrong, but the Silent has a ton of game breaking synergies she can employ. Defense/dexterity stacking, 15 to 20 card turns with a thousand cuts/after image in play, a shiv deck with accuracy and maybe a few points in strength, a bullet time deck with the most expensive cards, the discard synergies she can take advantage of, almost complete control over mana manipulation and card draw (outmaneuver, concentrate and expertise, etc), the best vulnerability enabler with terror, the best weakness enabler with malaise (or leg sweep or neutralize but its one of the three) and well laid plans imo is maybe the most impactful card in the game. Overall the silent has so much variety in how she can play and win. With her you can completely control each fight your in, hell I didn’t even mention poison. Like here’s one I like to use if the game allows me: so grand finale is complete devastation when you actually get to play it right? Well, to me at least, the silent’s card options give you absolute control over if and when you can play it. Her ability to alter your amount of card draw (think predator, all out attack, doppelgänger, etc) plus draw any amount of cards within a turn (escape plan, back flip, acrobatics, expertise, calculated gamble, and on and on) make it so that the only thing stopping you from ever playing it is your own calculations. As long as you got well laid plans+ you can play it almost every single pass through your deck. My proudest StS moment was when I retained Grand Finale+ and Nightmare for a few turns to set my draw up to where I needed it, then dropped 200 damage all at once on I forget which boss(the Champion maybe? idk). But yeah my 2nd favorite deck to run is a heavy defense build with grand finale as my primary damage dealer. My fav build still has to go to noxious fumes, envenom, and sadistic nature. If you get just one catalyst in your deck and you get your powers in play, you can beat almost any enemy in a handful of turns. If you get snecko skull on top of all that then it’s just game over lol. Meanwhile, the ironclad can only run like 4 or 5 deck types and you kinda gotta play em by the book, not too much variation. There’s strength stacking with demon form and/or limit break, a very small deck with rampage and maybe double tap, a build around a super upgraded searing blow and maybe an armaments, a barricade plus entrench plus body slam build, or a dark embrace, feel no pain, corruption build. Anything else you just gotta hope you get the right relics for it to work. A deck with anger, clash, rage, and fire breathing for example is great so long as you get unceasing top or shuriken or something, otherwise you’ll struggle to get the draw to support it and/or it won’t do enough damage to beat bosses and elites. Now you could maybe convince me that something like an evolve, power through, wild strike, immolate plus fiend fire deck could be added to the ironclads 4 or 5 good builds. I just personally haven’t had success with it, but it does seem like it ‘should’ work. Anyway, I feel like once a player gets a pretty good understanding of the game you start to realize all the different ways the silent can “break” it. Sorry for the book I wrote but I don’t get to talk StS with people who know their stuff to often so I had a lot to say lol.

Hey NL, if you play cards like skewer or whirlwind, when you have zero energy, they will just be discarded but will still count as using an attack. It's wonderful for relics like shuriken and ornamental fan or cards that play when using an attack

I feel like the mid video throw could have been avoided if you used the fire potion and focused on something, you might have just survived that encounter. It's no corpse explosion on ball boy that was one lucky escape there, but I feel you could've got through it.

The artifact elites are attacking in an order, when sou should not hit the guy who attacks. The others will next turn and if you set one up to it, you will be able to kill an attacking one.

If you ever want to know how much damage poison does just follow the formula n/2(n+1) where n is the poison value. So half of n times n plus 1.
