Passing up Dead Branch for no reason and still winning is pretty much the patented Northernlion Special. Good to see nothing's changed. TL;DR: Run Strength 10/10, Strategy 7/10, Tactics 9/10. A great performance that crushed Asc 15, even though he had pretty much a perfect run (without Dead Branch, even). I'd be fine with giving this a 9 on Strategy without that Shop play - thinking wrong is one thing, but literally just sailing over it because you aren't playing enough attention is terrible. > NL finally constructs a deck with balanced attack and defense, a clear winning condition that works in both long and short fights, and utility cards that help that win condition. And none of the cards are that bad on their own! > Still would like to see that Bash upgrade way earlier than the final campfire. Like, at the first campfire (which should be before an elite, not after). > Good potion use coming off of a run where he explicitly said he would just throw them out. > Treat the second split the same way you'd treat the first split. NL was extremely close to just dying on the first boss. since he split both sides at 28. > I would like to see the same long term planning NL did at the latter half of act 3 in the entire run. Actually planning escape strategies, looking for campfires, considering risk... Good shit. Act 1: - Please, my Map. It is very weak... - I would have transformed 2 cards - Ironclad can heal back that damage, especially with a stronger starting deck to take no damage. - Rage is definitely a good card early, but hopefully he doesn't rely on it too much against things like Repulsors and Sentries. - He's actually removing Strikes. Finally. - NL is exactly backwards - you want the first upgrade to come before the elite to upgrade a damage source and kill it faster. - Finally, he's figuring out the power of exhausting cards. - Juggernaut is great card with: Rage, Ornamental Fan, and a lot of blocking cards, all of which NL has. Bad pass. - Upgrade priority is decent - Inflame and True Grit being great upgrades - but I always, always want to see Bash upgraded first. - NL finally is paying attention to deck balance, which is why he immediately takes a card that isn't an attack. Hey, it's at least some progress. - Resting is pretty overkill here. Well, if he didn't completely botch the second split for no good reason, that is. Really questionable play in the back half of the Slime Boss fight. - Deck so far is a little slow, but has good potential. I'd like to see instantaneous damage cards to brute force through fights without the need to set up Inflames and Spot Weaknesses, but the deck does have a good defensive core. Towards that end, I would take Immolate over Reaper, but if he wants to stall further and recover from chip damage Reaper is also fine. Busted Crown is also good because NL already has the Bowl and really like the extra energy. Act 2: - Actually, you should be taking the ? path because act 2 fights do tons of damage that might outweigh the +2 max HP, especially with NL's slower deck. - Defends aren't as bad as Strikes are, because blocking is much more valuable and Defend's alternatives are not as overwhelmingly better than Strike's are. I would remove a Strike there - but honestly, upgrading 4 defends is probably still worth. - Oh boy, another Elite fight that NL's forced into because he didn't look at the map. Exhaust Rage over Bash - this fight is a damage race, and the Wounds will make 3 or even 0 block turns with Rage increasingly common. Also, losing Bash wouldn't be a positive if you actually upgraded it... - Another Juggernaut is kind of funny, but in retrospect now he doesn't need it. - In retrospect, Reaper is absolutely the right pick. It's doing a lot of work for NL. - With Preserved Insect and Reaper, NL should be able to do the rest of the Elites without too much hassle. Still, though, I think NL underestimates their difficulty. - NL passes up on the best Ironclad relic (probably the best relic overall) in the game because he exits the shop without thinking. This is, uh, incredibly bad. That's our boi... - Nunchuck is random free energy, which is always nice. It's not really something you play around like Pen Nib, though. - Strong scaling damage and good block makes Champ a chump. Limit Break and Black Star make the rest of the run chumps. Act 3: - Not greeding out with Limit Break is a good sign. - Good respect on the Elites, too. He's learning. - NL's buys are good as well, save for possibly wanting Speed Potion over Fear. - Madness pick is kinda just 2 Clumsies in most cases since NL can play a lot of his hand anyways, but Stopwatch helps the draw problem. - Kunai is better in the vast majority of scenarios, since Dex is a generally stronger stat. - He's even doing the Madness plays correctly, holy heck. The improvement is here - over a single episode, no less! - And Potion saving. If I didn't know better, I'd think he actually read these long-ass comments.

Alex 0597 Absolutely. No other relic comes even close to just being an instant win with a single uncommon card that can even be generated by Dead Branch, in addition to it dovetailing with other very strong Ironclad cards like True Grit and Fiend Fire.

Singing bowl+Cracked Crown? That synergy gave him around +30 max hp and saved him from thiccening his deck for cards that would not have been worth it. Also, Preserved Insect+Black star? Insane combo that gave him a lot of very decent future relics. Maybe his run didnt depend on one or two OP relics, but he had a lot of meaningfully strong relics and relic combos.

I thought the same thing. Could have had two or three of those, if I remember correctly. It would have meant that, when he plays Rage on the turn, every attack gives him block and does extra damage. Also, Block and Shrug it Of would always give hi extra block, which in itself is pretty darn usefull in its own right.

The disrespect for brutality is incredible, a 0 energy draw 1-3 cards in a normal fight loosing only chip damage hp is so good, against bosses it just wrecks houve being 0 +4 - +6.
