Great review! I have to say, though, I would not pay $170 for a bourbon I couldn't even put in my Top 5 for the year (not even of all time!). Sounds like it's good but just one in the crowd...can't pay over $100 for an "among the crowd" bourbon.

If doesn't stand out, I'd rather just buy 2 or 3 bottles I already like for that same money. I'm also a little frugal in that sense - I'm not buying 15 $150-200 bottles each year. If I'm getting that, it better be a Top 5 candidate, lol

Completely agree. I'm not even willing to spend $100 on a bourbon. Not even close. For the most part these guys do stick to us normal folks. But occasionally I think they pop a gummy and decide to talk about bourbons that are so far beyond the reach of 99.99% of us that it's kind of silly

I wish you would add a few drops of water, and then describe the tasting notes. At a bourbon tasting in Nashville our host had us add a little water to Makers 46 and the results were whole new dimensions of flavor. He said that's typical for the Maker's range.

I thought adding some Old Limestone water to bourbon was BS but then did a blind tasting with some friends. Everyone of us picked the MM with a few drops of Old Limestone as the winner. Definitely changed it up. Our blind was straight MM 46, MM 46 with tap water and then MM460 with Old Limestone.

You know me. I'm a huge Maker's fan, but the price is starting to make me pause on the annual releases. I still have some of the 2023 Cellar Aged and I love it. If I find this one, I'd probably buy it at MSRP, but I won't chase the price on it into crazy town. (It's listed at $200 in North Carolina. I paid $150 for the 2023 in the local county lottery.)

I haven't been able to find any of their special release stuff. I really have given up on special releases from any brand. I love the 46, and my favorite store has their stave pick bottles that are awesome. I like their 101 also. I tend to buy single barrel store picks more than anything because it's a way to get something unique and often very good.

Notice that this year's is 750ml and not 700ml like last year. Two more ounces in the bottle helps justify the $25 (retail) price jump a little IMO.

Last year’s was 750ml also. The bottles released/shipped overseas are 700ml. Since they didn’t sell as they had hoped for internationally, they began selling the 700ml bottles at the gift shop earlier this year.

I passed on this year’s release due to the price increase and mixed reviews. I can get a Disco for a much better price and the juice is just as good, if not better. Not to mention there is a ton of great bottles out there below $100 price point.

That may be personal preference, but I guarantee not a majority opinion. I get it, I won’t be able to find it either, but let’s not go overboard. I’ve never had a 10+ year old whiskey that wasn’t vastly superior to its shelf stable counterpart. The price and limited availability make it tough if it’s not worth it to people to hunt for these. I fully understand that angle.

I like Trentons idea for figuring out top 5s, but after you do what u did last year. Meaning, do exactly what you did last year to figure out your top 6 or whatever. Score them. Then a different day, blind and score your top 6 or whatever. Combine those scores, there's your top 5.

I love your guys channel. I always find myself looking up videos on whiskey but never actually felt the need to subscribe to any of them. Generally, they didn't draw me in outside of just providing the immediate info I was looking for. Outrageous price increase. They can keep it. For a 13 year old bourbon. Kiss my a$$. The bourbon prices as a whole are just ridiculous now. I do very well for myself but I also have common sense when it comes to spending my hard earned money. I’ve been a fan of channels like this one from the beginning but this has become a FAD, and it’s sad because I remember when good bottles were affordable and we could all experience bourbon and other whiskies as it should be. But, as with everything, people take it to extremes and status is only fulfilled if you show up with a bottle no one else can get their hands on. If you spend that type of money on a bottle, what happens is it continues to go up because they know idiots will pay for it.

Your selections are going to get more and more and more limited and singular unfortunately. Warehousing something for 10 years and charging under 100$ isn’t something most businesses can do and survive. All the but biggest prices will continue to creep up and up or get younger and younger.
