Hey guys, I drove to Kentucky yesterday mainly to stop by Wilderness Trail and pick up the 8 year wheat which was released yesterday. (Outstanding by the way). I was only 50 minutes from Glenn's Creek so I headed over. You guys were not lying, very friendly and the bourbon was fantastic. Ended up picking up and OCD and Swheat and their Rye was also fantastic. The nice lady in the tasting room/gift shop/phone booth told me they had received over 20 visitors thanks to this video and almost everyone ended up buying. Nice job turning us on to a hidden gem and supporting a small very cool distillery.

Hi guys, thanks for the great review. We enjoyed your visit as well. Clarification on a few things- The Cuervito Vivo is 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% barley and the upside down ! is the way the Spanish speakers do. When you end a statement with ! then there is an upside down one at the beginning. Maybe it prepares you to be amazed by the statement. OCD is about 85, 10, 5. I say about because it is rounded to the nearest 50 lb bag. On the A-maize-ing C.O.B- it is a bourbon, not a corn whiskey. Corn whiskey can't touch charred wood, and the other whiskeys MUST touch charred wood. The COB was aged in a charred and toasted barrel thus it is bourbon. There is no max amount of corn for bourbon, only a minimum. Regarding comments from viewers (and others) about letting things get older- well we keep increasing production so we CAN let barrels age more, but people keep buying it all! We are just getting into product from a big volume increase so hopefully some can age longer. Bottom line though- we won't put it in a bottle if we don't think it is ready. We are not doing it because we need the sales. We do it because if it tastes good why not bottle it? We use 53 gallon barrels. We tried some smaller ones and there was not much difference in time, but the cost was way more. You guys did a great job remembering the many things we covered when you were here. Thanks again.

Just got back from 5 days in Louisville and stopped in to Glenn’s Creek on the way back home to Virginia. I would have never known what I was missing without you guys spreading the good word on this hidden gem of a distillery! David was on vacation so we didn’t get the full experience but I did a little tasting with 3 of my really good friends who joined me on this trip… and it was incredible. I can’t tell you about all we got to taste but I will say … it was our LUCKY day. One of the highlights of the trip!

I want to thank you for this review. I've been fascinated with this distillery for quite a while. I've shunned away from it due to having no reference and my perceived age/price disparity. No, it's not cheap. After this review, I purchased a bottle of OCD #5. It is scrumptious. So rich and sweet, a bit of custard, a hint of leather, RICH caramel, but dark. Reminds me of some Double Oaks I've had. I need to move this to the back of my cabinet so I'm not draining $70 bottles.

I had to go back and revisit this video and wish I could give it a second thumbs. I was able to get to WI yesterday and lo and behold, found the OCD #5. It is certainly one intriguing and interesting bourbon! I get different notes with each sniff or sip. I look forward to enjoying this bottle in the weeks/months to come, provided I can nurse it that long!

Glenns Creek is one of the best distillery experiences you can have. At first glance, you might be tempted to turn around. The Old Crow Distillery is so dilapidated, it looks like something out of "The Walking Dead." There are no plush leather chairs, no fancy glasses, no chocolates. Heck, they don't even have indoor bathrooms (no joke). What they do have are Dave and John, who are a joy to meet and spend time with, and some truly unique, hand-crafted spirits. Warning - their bourbons DO NOT taste like those at the big distilleries. They know this, and when folks walk in and ask to buy a bottle, they always offer to tell them about their products first and encourage them to try a few. Tip - if you buy a bottle there, pay the extra money and get something hand-filtered! That barrel char floating around in the bottle DOES make it taste richer!

Great video! I visited Glenn's Creek last year as a side thought when I toured Castle & Key and it was an outstanding experience. Being a history nut, I picked up a bottle of the Cuervito Vivo which they said was their attempt to recreate the original Old Crow from the 19th century. This was supposed to be the favorite bourbon of General Grant, so I had to have some. I really enjoyed it. The OCD #5 was great also. It is hard to believe they get such great flavors out of whiskey this young. I would really love to try some in the 6 to 8 year range if they ever age any that long.

The only multi-barrel blend that Glenn's Creek does is only available occasionally. From what I remember, he takes the last 5% or so (dregs) of the OCD barrels and collects it/blends it over time until he has enough to bottle a few so he only has it every so often. I have one such bottle. It's one of the most complex bourbons I've ever tasted. It's deeper/darker than OCD with more notes from the char (dark chocolate, molasses). This is what a small distiller is all about and why I focus on them whenever I've touring. Great job SLB is highlighting a small guy doing it right. However, I can't believe you didn't comment on the "puffery". I found the whole story they tell on labeling standards (or lack there of) to be really informative for newbies.

This is a new distillery to me, too, but it sounds great. I'm putting on my list of must-trys. Thanks guys. Trenton, I have a story similar to your creamed corn experience. My mom sat me in front of a plate of picked beets and told me I couldn't get up until I finished them. I sat there for a while without eating, so she came in and mashed them with a fork, which, trust me, didn't help. After what seemed like hours, she gave up and let me go. I still won't touch a beet to this day. 😄

To answer your question Trent, in spanish when a sentence (or in this case word) has an exclamation mark, you initiate your sentence with that upside down exclamation mark. Doesn't mean it's double excitement just sentence structure. Cuervo vivo means "The crow lives!"

Im driving back from Kentucky to Kansas City now. Based on OCD#5 finishing so high in Trent's and Kurt's bracket this year, i made sure we stopped at Glenn's Creek. Our tour was at day's end. I think Dave was tired so our "tour" was tasting product and Dave complaining. Dont take that wrong, we did not see anything in his shop, but he confirmed a lot of suspicions i had about labeling, terms and the many hurdles to getting one's product distributed outside of one's state. I loved the OCD#5 (bought 2 bottles) We also bought the OLE and SeWheat. He turns out a great product(s) from what appears to be chaos. I should have purchased more swag from him. Support the small shop. I would have missed Glenn's Creek Distillery if not for SLR Basement Bourbon Bar.

Trent mentioning how it was odd that Kurt liked the coffee note but doesn't like coffee caught my attention. I absolutely hate black licorice but have a store pic of Wilderness Trail family reserve that has a distinct black licorice note to it. It is currently the most coveted bottle in my cabinet and one that I'm very sad is almost empty. I now actively seek out other Bourbons that have that licorice note. I should mention that I also hate other liquors that tastes like black licorice. The Wilderness Trail store pick has a very subtle note at the end or I'd probably hate it instead of loving the way it blends with the other notes.

And then it hit me - on *Moonshiners* , one of my favorite shows, Tim Smith visited the distillery when he was researching the origin of sour mash distilling. 🙂 13:28 In Spanish, there's an initial punctuation to indicate at the beginning of the sentence whether it's an exclamation or a question: *¡Viva Zapata! ¿Pero dónde está Zapata?* 16:57 Kurt, have you ever tried Baby Blue or True Blue from Balcones Distilling? They're the same juice, but at different ages, and the mash bill is 100% roasted Texas blue corn. Even the Baby Blue, which is only like two years old, drinks like a bourbon - it's *delicious* . Balcones also toasts their barrels before charring them. 20:10 Creamed corn is good. 🌽
