This track is a banger. Sleafords Mods are the best representation of the England I know - grim council estates, shit weather, betting shops, etc. No-frills art which cuts through all the bullshit. I think great music often emerges when the dominant styles/genres no longer match with reality. Ozzy Osbourne pointed out something similar when he talked about the birth of Sabbath - he was dirt poor at the time, without shoes even, and listening to "are you going to San Francisco with a flower in your hair" on the radio. For him, San Francisco may as well have been "Mars" as he looked around the depressing estate he was living on. Hence the birth of metal - i.e. as an antidote to "flower power" rock that meant nothing to most people. I just say this cos I read something similar in the way Jason talks about rock - clearly guitar based-rock has lacked any basis in social reality for some time now. Maybe Sleaford Mods are also a logical historical progression from punk - i.e. after punk has rejected guitar virtuosity in favour of a more primitive, direct approach to music-making, the next step is to throw the guitars away altogether.
@tvtitlechampion32384 жыл бұрын
You have a compelling argument about the nature of progression in music rising from cultural surroundings going. Maybe the next phase is a return to acoustic instruments ie pick the guitars back up, as we spiral through time towards the next unknown. Who knows what the next generation's children will adopt as 'cool'. Evolution=de-evolution=splitting the difference?

One of the only bands that keeps getting better. I thought their sound might have got a bit stale and one dimensional by now, but they keep finding subtle ways of keeping it interesting. Also appreciate that they didn't do the obvious lockdown/pandemic track. This new song actually made me forget about all that for a few minutes. Great stuff and looking forward to the album.

"Kulturzeit" One of the German/austrian/swiss TV Culture Programs did a great report on "Seafood Moods"which resembles an amplified version of the crap I remember, growing up in a UK cul-de-sack, back in the 80s. We left when the local shopping center became the safe haven for Vandals. Thatcher era. in all its glory. Channel ARTE and TTT "title thesen temperamente" also did some good coverage. You will have gained further massive traction over here in Europe which you deserve. Must admit I had never heard of this duo before, so thanks German telly for widening the scope and giving me a slice of what was once "home". Not quite my cup of tea musically, but its a solid, honest brew, with banging lyrics, hypnotic beats and anger tones steadily being belched out, indefatigable, like a massive charly fuelled, filthy 24/7 factory. I had a similar epithany discovering Jesse Bernsteins "Prison" LP back in the days. I find this Tune catchy, raw, draws you in and just works! Billy NoMates adds great vocal flavour to the monotony, generally Sleaford Mods sum up a lot of the scandals and shambles and can deliver a strong message to the masses, I am just afraid, that once again, the UK will become proud of its altered state and thrive on its grime instead of getting itself out of the gutter. Not an easy task, and plenty of other countries in Europe/ World need to pay attention too. Good old lyrics of ABC's Beauty Stab, United Kingdom come to mind: "Covering up the agony with mindless entertainment You`ll be happy when they`re ripping up the pavement" "This busted, rusted, upper-crusted Bankrupted done and dusted No-man-to-be-trusted United Kingdom" Looking forward to a live show, stay healthy & prosper............. Shame its all gone Brexit.

Wow! Here I have been living in India for the past 15 years.... and my 60 something Jewish artist friend from New York, living nearby, sends me a link to this,. Stunning work. Punk was an important influence and to hear this fresh and original work is exciting. He lives in a very shabby part of town and I can't help but think that he is channelling his love of that place through this song.

Great track - Was lucky enough to see these guys live at a sold out show in Auckland New Zealand earlier in the year just before coronavirus took hold - probably one of the last international acts that got here. They are unbelievable live - better than you can imagine. One of those extremely rare gigs where afterwards everyone is just grinning and no one wants to leave. Made me remember what a great live show actually feels like and was buzzing for days after. Thankyou to Andrew and Jason for making it all the way down here and come back one day soon. The in unison head nodding at 02:24 is a thing of beauty. Love this song. So, so, good. For me this is their best work..absolute banger..a classic The vocals,the music,the ambiguity in the lyrics & the guest vocal..it’s simplicity is what makes it so good..that beat is insane..I can almost hear method man versing over it ...a real nod to early Sleaford stuff this but slicker and the video is 🔥 as well..10/10 See you live next summer.. I think there are parts of America that would totally understand what this is about - anyone who grew up in the Rustbelt in the eighties when the auto and steel industries started to collapse for example. Or anyone living in the communities decimated by NAFTA in the 90s. The working class experience on both sides of the Atlantic was not that dissimilar, although the pure misery and griminess of the coal and steel towns in the UK was probably a lot more entrenched, having been more or less the same since the start of the industrial revolution.
