thank you for posting this awesome vid , great scenery and i also can clearly see that it is way less effort to drive a snow bike for older guys like me that dont have much energy to invest . i tell you i sure would have liked the opportunity to drive a lets say 600 up to maybe 800 cc 2 stroke snow bike when i were younger . it sure would give this 50 year old man great pleasure for just one rip on a 2 stroke snow bike for good old time sake . in a forest just like the one you were in :)) i know that wont happen so the best thing would be to see someone build a 600 or 800 twin v mag 2 stroke and take it for a good rip . a v twin just like in some bikes only diff is a two stroke screamer , those two strokes sound like they are very angry lmao . the four strokes sound like they are just grumpy lol .

Great wrap up. As a snowbiker myself with mostly only sled friends, It's always compromise. Two average riders each on their own machines though and the snowbike will make the tough terrain magnitudes easier to ride. However out in open on huge hills in powder, with the snowbike I have to zig zag my way up because the power just isn't there. Once at the top though it's VERY fun riding back down the slope on the snowbike! So I don't mind following the sleds up the big slopes even though it's not fun going up!

I disagree with a lot of these comments, my best friend was a snowbike rider, and maybe because I love to push my self, I would tell him not to compromise, following that bike pushed me harder to be more competent and go places I never thought possible. He rode sleds too, so when I got tired we would switch machines, he would get warmed up and I could rest. Such good times!

Ridden quite a few MX bikes as well as street bikes and sleds, but I can't get over the feeling the type of riding suited to a snowbike isn't for me. I wish it was! Have since sold all the sleds, but still have mx bikes. Friends and I would spend the greater part of the day on fast trails. Had the most fun ripping and trying to stay with each other. Could you give me a little more info on your friend's bike? Is the electrical system on a bike a bit of a shortcoming for this application? Can it run full lights, heated grips etc? How is the maintenance schedule? I feel like this use is really hard on it. Is there any truth to that, or is it unfounded? Thanks
@sleddermag6 жыл бұрын
MrRRRR1Rob Thanks for watching. Yes, the kit does require the bike to work hard, causing service intervals to be shortened quite a bit. Lights can be run but typically heated grip mods pipe the coolant through the bars rather than use the electrical system. Lots of info out there if you're interested. The bike is a Yamaha YZ450F. The big bore thumpers are ideal for a snow bike application. Maybe you should try a rental for a day or two and see if you like it? They're plenty fun! Cheers.

I’ve been riding bikes and sleds here in Alaska for 40+ years. I’ve ridden my KTM 500exc through Africa, Europe and North America, raced MX, Hare Scrambles, single track and mountain terrain. I have been sledding long distances (usually 700 mile trips to the Yukon, Northern AK and N.W.T., mountain riding my Turbo sleds are my favorite. So I think I have a bit of experience. But, I’ve tried snowbikes a few times and find I can’t get the hang of keeping the ski up in deep snow! It’s not enjoyable. This guy makes it look easy! Has to be my lack of talent.

Good vid, however i would have liked to have seen how the bike compares to the sled on hill climbs.
@sleddermag6 жыл бұрын
Good point RosevearRiderZ! In the wide open, our experience was that the sled can build and carry speed better and in that way out-climb the snow bike by a fair margin. So on a straight hillclimb, the sled will out-climb the snow bike every time. But where the terrain or trees make travel less straightforward, the snowbike does a better job of maneuvering and carrying speed to help chew up hills on an angle. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

Gotta work on throttle use on the sled. Would burn less fuel and make it through more obstacles with more steady throttle. Endless revving every half second has no advantage and more times than not you'll be off the throttle when you get in an instant that you should have been under power to push through the situation.
